Association with clinic risk factors of Percheron artery infarction and magnetic resonance imaging involvement patterns
This study aimed to discuss the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of this abnormal variant of arterial supply. Patients who presented to our hospital with stroke symptoms between 2010 and 2019 and underwent brain MRI were evaluated retrospectively. Eleven patients with AOP infarction were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 67.4  ± 9.6 years. Seven (63.6%) of the patients were male and four (36.4%) were female. Accompanying diseases were hypertension in eight patients (72.7%) and coronary artery disease in five (45.4%). In eight patients (72.3%), the infarction of AOP extended under the th...

Outcomes of Ischemic Stroke and Associated Factors Among Elderly Patients With Large-Artery Atherosclerosis: A Hospital-Based Follow-Up Study in China
Large-artery atherosclerotic (LAA) stroke is the most common subtype of ischemic stroke. However, risk factors for long-term outcomes of LAA stroke in the elderly Chinese population have not been well-described. Therefore, we aimed to assess outcomes and risk factors at 3, 12, and 36 months after LAA stroke onset among stroke patients aged 60 years and older. All consecutive LAA patients aged ≥ 60 years were prospectively recruited from Dongying People's Hospital between January 2016 and December 2018. The clinical features and outcome data at 3, 12, and 36 months after stroke were collected. Differences in outcomes and ...

Stroke Care during the COVID-19 Pandemic: International Expert Panel Review
This study, prepared by a large international panel of stroke experts, assesses the rapidly growing research and personal experience with COVID-19 stroke and offers recommendations for stroke management in this challenging new setting: modifications needed for prehospital emergency rescue and hyperacute care; inpatient intensive or stroke units; posthospitalization rehabilitation; follow-up including at-risk family and community; and multispecialty departmental developments in the allied professions.Summary: The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 uses spike proteins binding to tissue angiotensin-converting enz...

Impact of SARS-CoV-2 on reperfusion therapies for acute ischemic stroke in Lombardy, Italy: the STROKOVID network
AbstractWhether and how SARS-CoV-2 outbreak affected in-hospital acute stroke care system is still matter of debate. In the setting of the STROKOVID network, a collaborative project between the ten centers designed as hubs for the treatment of acute stroke during SARS-CoV-2 outbreak in Lombardy, Italy, we retrospectively compared clinical features and process measures of patients with confirmed infection (COVID-19) and non-infected patients (non-COVID-19) who underwent reperfusion therapies for acute ischemic stroke. Between March 8 and April 30, 2020, 296 consecutive patients [median age, 74 years (interquartile range (IQ...

Lacunar Stroke Lesion Extent and Location and White Matter Hyperintensities Evolution 1 Year Post-lacunar Stroke
Lacunar strokes are a common type of ischemic stroke. They are associated with long-term disability, but the factors affecting the dynamic of the infarcted lesion and the brain imaging features associated with them, reflective of small vessel disease (SVD) severity, are still largely unknown. We investigated whether the distribution, volume and 1-year evolution of white matter hyperintensities (WMH), one of these SVD features, relate to the extent and location of these infarcts, accounting for vascular risk factors. We used imaging and clinical data from all patients [n = 118, mean age 64.9 (SD 11.75) years old] who presen...

Risk of Early Bleeding with Dual Antiplatelet Therapy in Acute Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack Regardless of NIHSS Admission
Background: Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAT) is a therapeutic option for patients with minor ischemic stroke (IS) or transient ischemic attack (TIA). No study has evaluated the incidence of early bleeding in patients with moderate to major ischemic stroke. The current study aimed to analyze both the frequency of early bleeding and hospital morbidity related to DAT for either acute IS or TIA regardless of admission National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score. Methods: This was a retrospective analysis based on data collected from a prospective data bank of a single center.

Association between in-hospital frailty and health-related quality of life after stroke: the Nor-COAST study
Stroke survivors are known to have poorer health-related quality of life (HRQoL) than the general population, but less is known about characteristics associated with HRQoL decreasing through time following a s...

Analysis of Treatment Outcome After Endovascular Treatment in Different Pathological Subtypes of Basilar Artery Occlusion: a Single Center Experience
AbstractThe current study aimed to evaluate whether patients with different pathologic subtypes of basilar artery occlusion (BAO) stroke could affect the clinical outcome after receiving endovascular treatment(EVT). A total of 187 consecutive patients with acute BAO receiving endovascular treatment (EVT) from January 2012 to July 2018 at the Beijing Tiantan Hospital were recruited in this study. The patients were categorized into three groups: embolism without vertebral artery (VA) steno-occlusion (group 1), in situ atherosclerotic thrombosis (group 2), and embolism from tandem VA steno-occlusion (group 3). Among the 187 p...

Behavioral Assessment of Unilateral Spatial Neglect with the Catherine Bergego Scale (CBS) Using the Kessler Foundation Neglect Assessment Process (KF-NAP) in Patients with Subacute Stroke during Rehabilitation in Japan
This study is aimed at determining the reliability and validity of the Japanese version of the KF-NAP (KF-NAP-J), evaluating the improvement of neglect assessment with KF-NAP-J, and comparing it with the original CBS for subacute stroke patients. We assessed subacute stroke patients admitted to our intensive rehabilitation hospital. Two KF-NAP-trained occupational therapists (OTs) assessed 22 patients. Before implementing the KF-NAP at the hospital, two other OTs assessed the other 23 patients using the CBS. We evaluated the interrater reliability of the KF-NAP and CBS using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) for th...
