Impact of stroke volume on motor outcome in neonatal arterial ischemic stroke.

Focal Cerebral Arteriopathy Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Corticosteroid treatment may provide additional benefit over AT for improved neurological outcome in childhood AIS because of focal cerebral arteriopathy. Larger prospective studies are warranted to further investigate these differences and understand mechanisms by which steroids modify outcome.

Health related quality of life and manual ability 5 years after neonatal ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSION: Five years after NAIS, HRQOL is comparable to that of typically developing peers, but reduced in children with CP. Poorer manual ability is associated with lower HRQOL. Multicenter, retrospective analysis of endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke in nonagenarians
Background: With the increasing age of acute stroke patients being admitted to hospitals, more data are needed on indications, complications and outcome of endovascular treatment (EVT) in the very elderly. Methods: Retrospective observational study with data collection from Belgian, Swiss, Canadian comprehensive stroke centers and Swedish EVT National database. All patients with acute ischemic stroke were eligible if aged older than or ≥90 years and treated with EVT ± pretreatment with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT).

Conclusions—Promoting microvascular reperfusion by protecting vasculature can secondarily reduce parenchymal ROS formation and provide neuroprotection. The model presented can be used to directly assess pharmacological end points postulated in brain parenchyma and vasculature in vivo.

Conclusions: Up to date, no data about PCIS and IVT are available from RTCs. Based on limited results from retrospective clinical studies and case series, IVT is safer for use in PCIS than in ACIS. Patients with brainstem ischemia, vertebral artery occlusion, and absence of basilar or posterior cerebral artery occlusion could be considered for treatment with IVT even in borderline cases. Inclusion of stroke patients in expanded cardiac rehabilitation services: a cross-national qualitative study with cardiac and stroke rehabilitation professionals.
CONCLUSIONS: Hybrid cardiac rehabilitation programmes could be tailored to deliver stroke-specific education, exercises and multidisciplinary expertise. Post-stroke cognitive impairment was identified as a key barrier to participation in cardiac rehabilitation. A cognitive rehabilitation intervention could potentially be delivered as part of cardiac rehabilitation, to address the cognitive needs of stroke and cardiac patients. Ischaemic stroke despite antiplatelet therapy: Causes and outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: One-third of ischaemic strokes occurred despite APT and 20% of patients with a history of ischaemic stroke had no antithrombotic therapy when having stroke recurrence. Prolonged impairment of deglutition in supratentorial ischaemic stroke: the predictive value of Parramatta Hospitals' Assessment of Dysphagia.
CONCLUSIONS: In a selected population at risk of aspiration, the PHAD with a threshold of 70 assessed in the second week after stroke onset may be a valuable tool to predict prolonged impairment of deglutition for another 4 weeks and to guide the decision about switching from NG to PEG tube feeding after supratentorial ischaemic stroke.
