Epilepsy in patients with congenital heart disease: A nationwide cohort study
ConclusionsIn this nationwide, register-based cohort study, we found an almost fourfold increased risk of epilepsy in patients with CHD compared to controls; however, the absolute risk was low. Among the identified risk factors, stroke may be potentially preventable.

Trends in the Incidence and Risk Factors of Pregnancy-Associated Stroke
The objective of this review is to summarize studies on time trends of PAS in relation to trends in the prevalence of stroke risk factors in pregnant women. Seven retrospective national healthcare register-based cohort studies from the US, Canada, UK, Sweden, and Finland were identified. Five studies from the US, Canada, and Finland reported an increasing trend of PAS. Potential biases include more sensitive diagnostics and improved stroke awareness among pregnant women and professionals toward the end of the study period. However, the concurrent increase in the prevalence of several stroke risk factors among pregnant wome...

Sex Differences in Ischemic Stroke Within the Younger Age Group: A Register-Based Study
ConclusionsThe results show that there are sex differences in ischemic stroke in the younger age group regarding incidence and vascular risk factors, particularly smoking. Temporal trends in stroke incidence are difficult to interpret as fluctuations are substantial, largely due to stroke being quite uncommon in the younger population.

Dependency in Activities of Daily Living During the First Year After Stroke
Conclusion: The results indicated that dependency in personal ADL during the first 2 days can explain dependency at 3- and 12-month post-stroke. Therefore, early ADL assessments post-stroke can be used for understanding rehabilitation needs after stroke.

Influence of mobility restrictions on post ‐stroke pain
ConclusionsIn conclusion, the results suggest that restrictions in mobility and low vitality have an important role on the occurrence of post ‐stroke pain. Having post‐stroke pain could be due to not able to stand without losing balance and low vitality. Thus, rehabilitation professionals may consider the importance of these factors, especially mobility restrictions, in preventing post‐stroke pain.

Factor XII Concentrations and Risk of Intracerebral Haemorrhage. A Prospective Case-Referent Study
Intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) accounts for about 15% of all stroke in Sweden and is associated with high rates of death and disability.1,2 Biomarkers can be used in predicting disease risk as well as for disease diagnosis and prognosis estimation.3 A range of biomarkers have been studied in relationship to risk of ICH.4-7

Fluoxetine for stroke recovery improvement - the doubleblind, randomised placebo-controlled FOCUS-Poland trial.
CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Consistent with other trials based on the FOCUS protocol, fluoxetine did not improve motor recovery or general stroke outcome at six and 12 months in the Polish cohort studied. However, patients receiving fluoxetine required therapy with additional antidepressant medication less frequently. PMID: 33373036 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Diet and Lifestyle as Risk Factors for Carotid Artery Disease: A Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: In conclusion, the present study found a trend toward a protective effect of higher intake of vegetables and fruit against incident CAD. More prospective studies investigating the association between diet and CAD and stroke are needed in order to give firm recommendations.Cerebrovasc Dis

All-cause mortality for cohabiting spouses of stroke survivors: Evidence from Swedish national registries.
CONCLUSION: Spouses of stroke survivors have higher mortality rates than a matched reference population that persist for a minimum of 5 years. Policy-makers should acknowledge and address the health status of spouses when evaluating and planning the health and social care of stroke survivors. Validation of the Simplified Modified Rankin Scale Questionnaire
Conclusion: Our results show good validity of the postal smRSq, answered by the patients, compared with the mRS carried out face-to-face at 6 months after a stroke. This result could help trialists in the future simplify study design and make multicentre trials and quality registers with a large number of patients more feasible and time-saving.Eur Neurol

Reversal Treatment in Oral Anticoagulant-Related Intracerebral Hemorrhage —An Observational Study Based on the Swedish Stroke Register
Conclusion: In this large observational study 35% of patients with OAC-ICH did not receive reversal treatment. Patients receiving OAC-reversal treatment had an improved 90-day mortality outcome compared to those not receiving treatment. Mortality was strongly related to LOC. Further, and larger, studies are required to determine which patient groups may benefit from reversal therapy and in whom non-reversal is adequate.
