Serum lipoprotein(a) and risk of hemorrhagic stroke among incident peritoneal dialysis patients: a large study from a single center in China.
Conclusions: Among patients with incident PD, a higher serum Lp(a) level may predict a lower risk of hemorrhagic stroke. PMID: 31498021 [PubMed - in process]

Assessment of Carotid Intraplaque Neovascularization Using Superb Microvascular Imaging in High Risk of Stroke Individuals: Results From a Community-Based Study
Conclusions: Moderate to marked intraplaque neovascularization detected by SMI was more likely in subjects with a history of any territory stroke or TIA or thicker plaque. This indicates a potential new role of SMI in stratifying future risk of stroke or other arterial disease complications.

The association between serum uric acid levels and ischemic stroke in essential hypertension patients.
Conclusions: SUA was an independent risk factor for ischemic stroke, and also have a good predictive value ischemic stroke among hypertensive patients in Chinese community. PMID: 32303139 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

BMI modifies the association between serum HDL cholesterol and stroke in a hypertensive population without atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsWe found an inverse association between HDL-C and stroke only in the BMI  <  24 kg/m2 group. The finding suggested that BMI could modify the association between HDL-C and stroke in hypertensive populations without AF.

Association of LDL-C/HDL-C Ratio With Stroke Outcomes Within 1 Year After Onset: A Hospital-Based Follow-Up Study
Stroke remains a leading cause of death and disability. The low-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C/HDL-C ratio) ratio has been confirmed to be a predictor of stroke. However, few studies have assessed the prognostic impact of the LDL-C/HDL-C ratio for stroke patients. We aimed to investigate the relationship between the LDL-C/HDL-C ratio and the prognosis following stroke in Chinese patients. A total of 3,410 patients who had experienced their first ischemic stroke was recruited to this study within 72 h of stroke onset. The patients were followed for at least 12 months. A multiv...

The association between sleep duration, napping, and stroke stratified by self-health status among Chinese people over 65  years old from the China health and retirement longitudinal study.
CONCLUSIONS: Both short and long sleep duration were significantly associated with stroke among individuals who reported poor health. Stroke prevention should be focused on elderly individuals who believe that they have health problems. PMID: 33067754 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Elevated triglyceride-glucose index predicts risk of incident ischaemic stroke: The Rural Chinese Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: Elevated TyG index is an independent predictor of ischaemic stroke in the general population, and insulin resistance may be positively associated with future stroke risk.PMID:33722769 | DOI:10.1016/j.diabet.2021.101246

Testing the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Neurological Fatigue Index-Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: The C-NFI-Stroke is a reliable and valid tool for clinical and research use on people who have been diagnosed with stroke for a year or more, although its factor structure differs from that of the original English version.PMID:33722084 | DOI:10.1177/02692155211001684

Factors associated with stroke among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in China: a propensity score matched study
ConclusionsThe prevalence of stroke was high among T2DM in China. It is of great significance to strengthen comprehensive management of health-related behaviors including smoking cessation, moderate alcohol consumption, effective exercise, 6 –8 h of sleep duration, keeping normal weight and the prevention of hypertension and dyslipidemia to have sustained beneficial effects on improvements of stroke risk factors.
