Endoscopic surgery of the orbital apex: Outcomes and emerging techniques
ConclusionsThe endoscopic approach to the orbit apex offers significant advantages over traditional external approaches, and should be the preferred approach for all medial and inferior lesions. A two‐surgeon multihanded technique can help facilitate difficult cases. Level of Evidence4. Laryngoscope, 2015

Cerebral vasculitis histopathology in relapsing polychondritis
We describe here the histopathological features of RPC with CNS involvement in a 65-year-old gentleman that presented with rapidly progressive cognitive decline, fevers and ataxia over six weeks. He had bilateral auricular inflammation with cartilage destruction, but relative lobe sparing, ocular inflammation, and a symmetrical small-joint polyarthropathy. The cerebrospinal fluid showed lymphocytic pleocytosis. Diffuse sub-cortical white matter abnormalities were seen on magnetic resonance imaging. A clinical diagnosis of RPC was made on the basis of McAdam criteria. Routinely stained histological brain sections showed sca...

Clinical correlates of lung ventilation defects in asthmatic children
Lung ventilation defects identified by using hyperpolarized 3-helium gas (3He) lung magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are prevalent in asthmatic patients, but the clinical importance of ventilation defects is poorly understood.

Primary pulmonary haemosiderosis. Usefulness of MRI with DWI
To evaluate the usefulness of MRI with DWI for distinguishing lung findings in investigation of primary pulmonary haemosiderosis. We enrolled 31 patients with clinically confirmed primary pulmonary haemosiderosis who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). Male patients were 20 (65.52%), female 11 (34.48%). Patients were from 17 to 83 years old. Two thoracic radiologists reviewed MR images including unenhanced T1- and T2-weighted images, gadolinium-enhanced images and DWI images.MRI findings present three types of haemosiderosis. First was pulmonary haemosiderosis associated wi...

Spontaneous complete regression of hypothalamic pilocytic astrocytoma after partial resection in a child, complicated with Stevens-Johnson syndrome: a case report and literature review
We report a well-documented case of spontaneous regression hypothalamic PA after partial resection that complicated with SJS. Immune system reaction in SJS may have a role in tumor behavior and spontaneous regression. Multiple studies confirmed spontaneous regression in PA after partial/subtotal resection. This phenomenon occurs due to humoral and cell-mediated host immune responses to the implanted tumor. The immune system reaction in SJS may have a role in tumor behavior and spontaneous regression.

Magnetic resonance imaging reveals the complementary effects of decongestant and Breathe Right Nasal Strips on internal nasal anatomy
ConclusionsThe BRNS alone significantly increases nasal patency and alleviates perceived nasal congestion, and additional relief of symptoms can be obtained with simultaneous use of a decongestant. Level of Evidence1b. Laryngoscope, 2016

Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody Persistency in a Steroid-Dependent ADEM Case
Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) is a candidate target antigen in demyelinating central nervous system diseases, including acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), neuromyelitis optica, and multiple sclerosis. It may give prognostic information regarding monophasic or recurrent course of the disease. MOG antibodies have been shown to be positive in high titers during the first episode of ADEM with rapidly decreasing to undetectable limits after recovery. However, persistent MOG antibodies are considered as a predicting factor for multiple sclerosis, optic neuritis relapses, and incomplete recovery of ADEM. Her...

Is ventilation heterogeneity related to asthma control?
In asthma patients, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the lung clearance index (LCI) have revealed persistent ventilation heterogeneity, although its relationship to asthma control is not well understood. Therefore, our goal was to explore the relationship of MRI ventilation defects and the LCI with asthma control and quality of life in patients with severe, poorly controlled asthma. 18 patients with severe, poorly controlled asthma (mean±sd 46±12 years, six males/12 females) provided written informed consent to an ethics board approved protocol, and underwent spirometry, LCI and 3He MRI during a sing...

Prediction of the originating site of sinonasal inverted papilloma by preoperative magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography
ConclusionsPreoperative combination of MRI and CT provides a better option to accurately predict the SNIP originating site, and thus may facilitate accurate and complete excision of the SNIP.

Nanoscale Particulate Matter from Urban Traffic Rapidly Induces Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Olfactory Epithelium with Concomitant Effects on Brain
Conclusions: These findings show the differential time course of oxidative stress and inflammatory responses to nPM between the OE and the brain. Slow cumulative transport of inhaled nPM into the brain may contribute to delayed responses of proximal and distal brain regions, with potential input from systemic factors. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging for the diagnosis and follow-up of Loeffler's endocarditis
Loeffler's endocarditis (LE) is an acute form of primary restrictive cardiomyopathy. Patients affected often have a hypereosinophilic syndrome and cardiac involvement. Hypereosinophilia and cardiac involvement are also seen in the allergic eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Churg-Strauss syndrome). Warfarin is generally indicated because of association between LE and embolic events.

Pathophysiology of Immediate Reactions to Injectable Gadolinium-based Contrast Agents
Conclusion: As GBCAs are widely used for the diagnosis and monitoring of disease, the incidence of adverse drug reactions to GBCA warrants ongoing development of approaches to diagnosis and avoidance of these adverse events.

Clinical potential for imaging in patients with asthma and other lung disorders
The ability of lung imaging to phenotype patients, determine prognosis, and predict response to treatment is expanding in clinical and translational research. The purpose of this perspective is to describe current imaging modalities that might be useful clinical tools in patients with asthma and other lung disorders and to explore some of the new developments in imaging modalities of the lung. These imaging modalities include chest radiography, computed tomography, lung magnetic resonance imaging, electrical impedance tomography, bronchoscopy, and others.
