IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 4501: Prevalence of Skin Reactions and Self-Reported Allergies in 5 Countries with Their Social Impact Measured through Quality of Life Impairment
Conclusions: Quantifying the prevalence and the association of allergies with skin reactions and discomfort sensations is critical to evaluating the impact on quality of life. Since skin barrier alteration is hypothesized as a risk factor and a route of sensitization for allergy development, the daily use of topical treatments, such as moisturizers, could help prevent allergic skin reactions, discomfort and impaired quality of life in individuals with an altered skin barrier.

Prenatal and postnatal exposures to ambient air pollutants associated with allergies and airway diseases in childhood: A retrospective observational study.
Abstract It's inconsistent about associations of early exposures to outdoor air pollutants with allergies and airway diseases in childhood. Here, we investigated associations of prenatal and postnatal exposures to outdoor nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2), and PM10 (particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ≤ 10 μm) with asthma, wheeze, hay fever, rhinitis, pneumonia, and eczema in childhood. We surveyed 3,177 preschoolers who never change residences since birth in Shanghai, China. Parents reported information regarding children's health status. Daily-averaged concentrations of these pollut...

IJERPH, Vol. 14, Pages 979: Investigation on Indoor Air Pollution and Childhood Allergies in Households in Six Chinese Cities by Subjective Survey and Field Measurements
This study focuses on the effect of indoor pollution on Chinese schoolchildren and the relationship between specific household and health problems suffered. The epidemiological questionnaire survey and the field measurement of the indoor thermal environment and primary air pollutants including CO2, fine particulate matter (PM2.5), chemical pollutants and fungi were performed in six Chinese cities. A total of 912 questionnaires were eligible for statistical analyses and sixty houses with schoolchildren aged 9–12 were selected for field investigation. Compared with Chinese national standards, inappropriate indoor relative ...

Canis familiaris allergen Can f 7: Expression, purification and analysis of B cell epitopes in Chinese children with dog allergies.
Abstract Dogs are a major source of indoor allergens. However, the prevalence of dog allergies in China remains unclear, especially in children. In the present study, Can f 7, a canine allergen belonging to the Niemann pick type C2 protein family, was selected to study its sensitization rate in Chinese children with dog allergies. The Can f 7 gene was subcloned into a pET‑28a vector and expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) cells. Recombinant Can f 7 was purified by nickel affinity chromatography, identified by SDS‑PAGE electrophoresis, and had its allergenicity assessed by western blot, ELISA and basophil ...

Comparative study of food allergies in children from China, India and Russia: The EuroPrevall-INCO surveys
ConclusionsThere are wide variations in the prevalence of food specific IgE sensitization and food allergy in the three participating countries. Food allergy appears to be less common when compared to developed countries. The variations of the prevalence of food allergen sensitization cannot be explained by the differences in the degree of urbanization. Despite the high prevalence of food-specific IgE sensitization in India and rural China, food allergy is still extremely uncommon. In addition to IgE sensitization, other factors must play important roles resulting in the clinical manifestations of food allergies.

Management of Pet Allergies in Children in China
AbstractPurpose of the reviewWith the increase in pet keeping among families in China, there has been a corresponding increase in the incidence of allergic diseases such as bronchial asthma and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. Pet allergies pose important social and health problems, making their management in children crucial.Recent findingsThere is an increasing trend of sensitization to cat and dog dander among Chinese children. The process underlying allergic sensitization is complex and is associated with an IgE-mediated type I hypersensitivity reaction that involves the upregulation of type 2 T-helper (Th2) cells, result...

IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 4131: Prevalence of Childhood Asthma and Allergies and Their Associations with Perinatal Exposure to Home Environmental Factors: A Cross-Sectional Study in Tianjin, China
Jan Sundell Asthma, rhinitis, and eczema are becoming increasingly prevalent among children in China. Studies have shown that the perinatal period is critical and impacts children’s health. However, research on the associations between perinatal factors and childhood allergic diseases in China are few. We investigated 7366 children of ages 0–8 years old. The childhood asthma and allergies were surveyed by distributing questionnaires, modelled after Dampness in Buildings and Health (DBH) study in Sweden and had been validated. To determine the prevalence of the allergic conditions, explore for potential confounders,...

Component-Resolved Analyses for Diagnosis of Food Allergies in Infants and Young Children in Southern China
Conclusion: Among these subjects, our study found the main allergenic component of egg white was Gal d 2, and the main allergenic components of milk were Bos d 4 and Bos d 5. CRD may help identify egg/milk allergies and non-allergies.Int Arch Allergy Immunol

Associations of household dampness with asthma, allergies, and airway diseases among preschoolers in two cross-sectional studies in Chongqing, China: Repeated surveys in 2010 and 2019.
Abstract Many studies have investigated the associations between household damp indicators, and allergies and respiratory diseases in childhood. However, the findings are rather inconsistent. In 2010, we conducted a cross-sectional study of preschoolers aged three-six years in three urban districts of Chongqing, China. In 2019, we repeated this cross-sectional study with preschoolers of the same ages and districts. Here, we selected data for 2935 and 2717 preschoolers who did not change residences since birth in the 2010 and 2019 studies, respectively. We investigated associations of household damp indicators with...

Associations between household airborne culturable fungi and allergies and airway illnesses in childhood in Shanghai, China.
Abstract Associations of household airborne fungi with allergies in childhood were inconsistent in the epidemiologic studies. During 2013-2014, we conducted a case-control study (phase two), which was nested in a cross-sectional study (phase one) during 2011-2012 in Shanghai, China. We inspected indoor air quality of 454 residences for 5-10 years old children. We defined cases as those children who were reported illnesses in the questionnaire of phase one or phase two and defined controls as those children who were not reported illnesses in both phases. A total of 436 living rooms and 445 bedrooms had valid data ...

A real-world retrospective study of safety, efficacy, compliance and cost of combination treatment with rush immunotherapy plus one dose of pretreatment anti-IgE in Chinese children with respiratory allergies
ConclusionsRIT + 1 dose of pretreatment anti-IgE combination has practical advantages over CIT, including comparable safety, better compliance, and probably a faster onset of clinical efficacy at no additional cost, so it can be an useful regimen for the treatment of Chinese children with respiratory allergies.
