Catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: atrial fibrillation type determines the success rate.
CONCLUSIONS: Catheter ablation of AF in patients with HCM is an effective and safe therapeutic option, particularly in patients with paroxysmal AF. Effectiveness of ablation is significantly smaller in patients with persistent AF and even more so in those with long-persistent AF. Repeated procedures were often necessary. Continued antiarrhythmic drug therapy is often required due to a significant degree of atrial remodelling.

A cloudy story: Guillain–Barré syndrome concealed by a spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage
We present a case of Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS), probably associated with influenza vaccine, occurring in a patient some days after a spontaneous haemorrhagic stroke. A 79-year-old woman was admitted to the neurosurgery department after a sudden severe headache, dizziness, and progressive generalised weakness. She had a history of hypertension and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in dicumarolic therapy. Head CT scan showed a haemorrhagic stroke in left cerebellum, with compression on the fourth ventricle.

Clinical characteristics and outcomes of atrial fibrillation and flutter at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi.
CONCLUSION: Hypertension and diabetes mellitus, not rheumatic valve disease were the more common co-morbidities. Stroke risk stratification and prevention needs to be emphasised and appropriately managed.

Prevalence and impact of carotid disease in adult Saudi patients undergoing isolated coronary artery bypass surgery on early postoperative outcome
The aim of the study is to assess the prevalence of carotid disease in our Saudi population undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery and to determine its impact on stroke and early postoperative outcome. 9. Prevalence and impact of carotid disease in adult Saudi patients undergoing isolated coronary artery bypass surgery on early post-operative outcome
Conclusion The Presence of carotid artery disease in Saudi patients undergoing cardiac surgery is associated with increased prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, cerebro-vascular accidents and peripheral vascular disease. It is also a major determinant of adverse outcome after coronary surgery.

Silent brain infarcts in high blood pressure patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices: unmasking silent atrial fibrillation
Background: Hypertensive patients present a higher risk for developing atrial fibrillation and its complications. Cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) have shown reliable atrial fibrillation detection as atrial high-rate episodes (AHREs). The presence of AHRE more than 5 min has been related to increased risk of stroke, but a high proportion of ischemic brain lesions (IBLs) could be subclinical and thromboembolic risk underestimated.

New onset postoperative atrial fibrillation and early anticoagulation after cardiac surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: POAF after cardiac surgery was associated with high risk of MACE. Early anticoagulation may be justified in POAF patients to secure a long-term outcome after cardiac surgery.

Efficacy and Safety of Prothrombin Complex Concentrate (PCC) for Direct Oral Anticoagulant Reversal: A Single Institutional Experience
ConclusionIn this cohort, 80% of pts demonstrated clinical stability/improvement of hemorrhage. All pts were able to undergo surgical procedures; however 17% required additional FFP to achieve hemostasis. Thromboembolism occurred in 12% of patients.
