Increased Incident Ischemic Stroke Risk in Advanced Kidney Disease: A Large-Scale Real-World Data Study

The risk and timing of acute ischemic stroke after electrical cardioversion for atrial fibrillation in Taiwan: A nationwide population-based cohort study
There is a positive association between electrical cardioversion (ECV) and acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Although 4  weeks of anticoagulation therapy after ECV in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients is generally suggested by current guidelines to reduce the risk of AIS, limited studies have been conducted in Asian populations to determine the risk and timing of AIS after ECV for AF in recent years. Therefore, we aim to use the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) in Taiwan to determine the risk and timing of AIS after ECV for AF.

Should Atrial Fibrillation Patients With 1 Additional Risk Factor of the CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc Score (Beyond Sex) Receive Oral Anticoagulation?
ConclusionsNot all risk factors in CHA2DS2-VASc score carry an equal risk, with age 65 to 74 years associated with the highest stroke rate. Oral anticoagulation should be considered for AF patients with 1 additional stroke risk factor given their high risk of ischemic stroke.

Is clopidogrel better than aspirin following breakthrough strokes while on aspirin? A retrospective cohort study
Conclusions Among patients with an ischaemic stroke while taking aspirin, clopidogrel initiation was associated with fewer recurrent vascular events than aspirin reinitiation.

Oral Anticoagulation in Very Elderly Patients with Atrial Fibrillation - A Nationwide Cohort Study.
Conclusions -Among AF patients age ≥90 years, warfarin was associated with a lower risk of ischemic stroke and positive NCB. Compared to warfarin, NOACs were associated with a lower risk of ICH. Conclusions: Acute ischemic stroke patients admitted in hospitals participating in a telestroke program had a more pronounced reduction in in-hospital mortality. However, telestroke coverage did not alter the effect of nighttime admission on in-hospital mortality.

Comparison of real-world outcomes in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation treated with direct oral anticoagulant agents or warfarin.
Conclusion: The results of the study indicated that patients on DOACs had lower rates of ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, SE, and composite outcome of stroke or SE compared with patients on warfarin. No significant differences in bleeding rates between the DOAC and warfarin groups were observed, while total cost of care was lower in the DOAC group. Effectiveness and Safety of Rivaroxaban by General Practitioners 　- A Multicenter, Prospective Study in Japanese Patients With Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation (GENERAL)
