Fractional Flow Reserve-Guided PCI or Coronary Bypass Surgery for 3-Vessel Coronary Artery Disease: 3-Year Follow-Up of the FAME 3 Trial
CONCLUSIONS: At 3-year follow-up, there was no difference in the incidence of the composite of death, MI, or stroke after FFR-guided PCI with current-generation drug-eluting stents compared with CABG. There was a higher incidence of MI after PCI compared with CABG, with no difference in death or stroke. What is the diameter of a fibrin fiber?
CONCLUSION: We performed a systematic, multitechnique survey assessing fibrin fiber diameters under a range of biochemical conditions. The similarity in the diameter values obtained using SEM and superresolution imaging suggests that drying and fixation during SEM sample preparation do not dramatically alter fiber cross-sections. Congruence, under certain conditions, between diameter values obtained using SEM, superresolution fluorescence imaging, and turbidimetry demonstrates the feasibility of a fibrin diameter standardization project.PMID:37601015 | PMC:PMC10439396 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2023.100285

Association between vertebrobasilar artery geometry and vertebrobasilar stenosis, recurrence, and death in posterior circulation stroke and transient ischemic attack
CONCLUSIONS: The geometric characteristics of the VBA are associated with vertebrobasilar stenosis, LAA stroke, 1-year recurrence, and death in posterior circulation stroke and TIA. Age and sex differences in the risk of cardiovascular diseases by chronic kidney disease in a general Japanese population
We examined 5163 subjects who underwent health screening between 1992 and 1995 with calculated eGFR and follow-up information on CVD events. The mean follow-up period was 10 years. We analyzed the incidences of CVD events, including stroke and myocardial infarction (MI). We compared the risk of CVD between subjects with and without CKD using a Cox proportional hazards model adjusted for well-known CVD confounding factors. The total number of CVD events was 175. Trends in Cardiovascular Mortality in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation and Cancer in the United States (1999 to 2020)
Cancer has been identified as an independent risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF). Although the development of novel therapeutic agents has led to significant improvement in cancer-related outcomes, there is also a rising concern regarding the long-term impact of treatment-emergent cardiac adverse events such as AF.1 AF portends a poor prognosis in patients with cancer and is also associated with a twofold increase in the risk of stroke as compared with patients with AF without cancer.2 However, population-level data on the impact of AF on overall cardiovascular mortality in patients with cancer remain limited.
