Focal Cerebral Arteriopathy Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Corticosteroid treatment may provide additional benefit over AT for improved neurological outcome in childhood AIS because of focal cerebral arteriopathy. Larger prospective studies are warranted to further investigate these differences and understand mechanisms by which steroids modify outcome.

Changing course of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) after stroke: Excessive disease activity in a MS patient after cerebral infarction (P1.122)
CONCLUSIONS: This is a rare case of MS exacerbation after stroke in a patient with long-standing MS. The clear temporal relation with an increase of MS disease activity after stroke suggests possible interactions. Differential effects of sympathetic nervous system and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis on systemic immune cells after severe experimental stroke.
In conclusion, mediators of the SNS and the HPA axis differentially affect the systemic immune system after stroke. Moreover, our findings suggest a negative-feedback of corticosteroids on the sympathetic axis which may control the post-stroke stress-reaction. This complex interplay between the HPA and the SNS after stroke has to be considered when targeting the neurohormonal systems in the post acute phase of severe stroke. Traditional Chinese Medicine Decreases the Stroke Risk of Systemic Corticosteroid Treatment in Dermatitis: A Nationwide Population-Based Study.
This study identified 235,220 dermatitis patients and same comorbidity matched subjects between 2000 and 2009 from database of NHRI in Taiwan. The two cohorts were followed until December 31, 2011. The primary outcome of interest was new diagnosis of stroke. The crude hazard ratio (HR) for future stroke among dermatitis patients treated with systemic corticosteroid was 1.40 (95% CI, 1.34-1.45; P < 0.0001) and TCM was 1.09 (95% CI, 1.05-1.13; P < 0.0001). An unusual cause of acute ischemic stroke: Adult Onset Still ’s Disease
We present a case where acute ischemic stroke secondary to a floating internal carotid artery thrombus was an early manifestation of AOSD. The patient also had prolonged high spiking fevers, sign ificant leucocytosis, arthralgias and transaminitis. He responded well to a high dose of oral corticosteroids and was eventually started on anticoagulation for secondary stroke prevention. To our knowledge, this is the first described case of arterial thrombosis associated with AOSD. We postulate th at thrombocytosis, vasculitis and hypercoagulability from the underlying inflammatory state may have contributed to the ischemic stroke.

ConclusionsStroke caused by giant cell arteritis is a serious and potentially severe condition which requires a high level of suspicion and early treatment with corticosteroids. New diagnostic techniques contribute to refining patient assessment and identifying the optimal treatment. Report of cold agglutinins in a patient with acute ischemic stroke
Conclusion: We report here the first case of cerebral infarction probably due to the cold agglutinin disease. The underlying mechanism of cold agglutinins in the pathogenesis of acute ischemic stroke needs to be investigated further.

Delayed Recurrent Stroke in a Young Patient with Acute Posterior Multifocal Placoid Pigment Epitheliopathy
We report a 15-year-old patient who had bilateral APMPPE, which was successfully treated with corticosteroids. One year later he presented with transient dysarthria and right hemiparesis. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed bilateral ischemic lesions in both lenticular nuclei and corona radiata. Brain MRI performed 3 months later revealed a new asymptomatic ischemic lesion.
