Insulin resistance is an independent risk factor for early neurological deterioration in non-diabetic patients with acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionThis study strongly suggests that IR is probably an independent risk factor for END in non-diabetic patients with acute ischemic stroke.

d-dimer and diffusion-weighted imaging pattern as two diagnostic indicators for cancer-related stroke: A case–control study based on the STROBE guidelines
The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk factors and elucidate the clinical characteristics of cancer-associated ischemic stroke to differentiate it from conventional ischemic stroke in China and East Asia. Between June 2012 and June 2016, a retrospective analysis was performed on 609 stroke patients with cancer. They were divided into 3 groups: cancer-stroke group (CSG, 203 cases), stroke group (SG, 203 cases), and cancer group (CG, 203 cases). The d-dimer levels and diffusion-weighted imaging lesion (DWI) pattern were compared to an age- and sex-matched control group. The most common cancer types were colorectal ca...

Stress hyperglycemia is associated with in-hospital mortality in patients with diabetes and acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: The SHR may serve as an accessory parameter for the prognosis of patients with diabetes after acute ischemic stroke. Hyperglycemia in stroke patients with diabetes mellitus is associated with a higher risk of in-hospital death.PMID:35084107 | DOI:10.1111/cns.13764

Increased Two-Hour Post-Load Plasma Glucose Fluctuation Corresponds with Worse Clinical Prognoses among Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients without a History of Diabetes Mellitus
Conclusion: 2hPG-FPG is a relatively specific indicator of poorer 1-year clinical prognoses among AIS patients, independent of NDDM, 2hPG, and FPG post-hospital admission. Therefore, the oral glucose tolerance test could be a useful approach for detecting a higher likelihood for developing poorer prognoses among patients without DM history.Cerebrovasc Dis

Clinical efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine combined with Western Medicine in patients with diabetic acute ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSION: Standardized treatment was superior to non-standardized treatment for clinical efficacy of TCM combined with WM in patients with diabetic acute ischemic stroke, and the superiority was more obvious in improving neural dysfunction, ADL score, and TCM symptoms. The adverse reactions were similar in the two treatment groups. PMID: 24783923 [PubMed - in process]

Risk of stroke and coronary heart disease among various levels of blood pressure in diabetic and nondiabetic Chinese patients
Conclusion: HTN was associated with a two-fold increased risk of CHD and a three-fold increased risk of stroke compared with normotension irrespective of diabetes status. For diabetic patients with HTN, a more comprehensive method is essential for assessing cardiovascular risk.

Early neurological deterioration during the acute phase as a predictor of long-term outcome after first-ever ischemic stroke
Early neurological deterioration (END) is associated with increased risk of functional disability and mortality. However, data are limited regarding the long-term risk of poor functional outcomes. Thus we explored the association between END and long-term outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke. A total of 1064 patients were enrolled with acute ischemic stroke who were consecutively admitted to the 3 stroke units of Huai-He Hospital, Kaifeng, China. END was defined as an increment change of at least one point in motor power or total National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score deterioration ≥2 points ...

Differential Susceptibility in Ambient Particle –Related Risk of First-Ever Stroke: Findings From a National Case-Crossover Study
AbstractDifferent populations may respond differently to exposure to ambient fine particulate matter, defined as particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less than or equal to 2.5 μm (PM2.5); however, less is known about the distribution of susceptible individuals among the entire population. We conducted a time-stratified case-crossover study to assess associations between stroke risk and exposure to PM2.5. During 2013 –2015, 1,356 first-ever stroke events were derived from a large representative sample, the China National Stroke Screening Survey (CNSSS) database. Daily PM2.5 average exposures with a spatial res...
