Adapalene induces adipose browning through the RAR β-p38 MAPK-ATF2 pathway
This study identifies new actions of AD as an adipose browning agent and demonstrates that RARβ activation followed by increased phosphorylation of p38 MAPK and ATF2 appears to be a key mechanism of AD action.PMID:35608792 | DOI:10.1007/s12272-022-01384-4

Nicotinic acid suppresses sebaceous lipogenesis of human sebocytes via activating hydroxycarboxylic acid receptor 2 (HCA2 ).
Abstract Nicotinic acid (NA) activates hydroxycarboxylic acid receptor 2 (HCA2 ), and it is widely used in treating dyslipidaemias. Since its side effects include skin dryness, whereas its deficiency can be accompanied by dyssebacia, characterized by sebaceous gland enlargement, we asked if HCA2 is expressed on human sebocytes, and if NA influences sebocyte functions. By using human immortalized SZ95 sebocytes, we found that non-cytotoxic (≤100 μmol/L; MTT-assay) concentrations of NA had no effect on the homeostatic sebaceous lipogenesis (SLG; Nile Red), but normalized excessive, acne-mimicking SLG induced by ...

Current non-viral siRNA delivery systems as a promissing treatment of skin diseases.
CONCLUSION: The treatment of skin diseases based on topical delivery of siRNA, which act by inhibiting the expression of target transcripts, offers many potential therapeutic advantages for suppressing genes into the skin. PMID: 30084329 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

G2A Attenuates Propionibacterium acnes Induction of Inflammatory Cytokines in Human Monocytes.
Conclusion: G2A may play a role in quelling inflammatory cytokine response to PA, revealing G2A as a potential attenuator of inflammatory response in a disease associated with a commensal bacterium. PMID: 29200756 [PubMed]

MiR-338-3p inhibits TNF- α-induced lipogenesis in human sebocytes.
CONCLUSIONS: MiR-338-3p suppresses the TNF-α-induced lipogenesis in sebocytes by targeting PREX2a and down-regulating PI3K/AKT signaling. PMID: 28597147 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Nicastrin mutations in familial acne inversa impact keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation through Notch and PI3K-AKT signaling pathways.
CONCLUSIONS: Deficiency of nicastrin gene in familial acne inversa may regulate proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes mainly through Notch and PI3K-AKT signaling pathways. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. PMID: 26473517 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Characterization of the sebocyte lipid droplet proteome reveals novel potential regulators of sebaceous lipogenesis.
Abstract Lipid metabolism depends on lipid droplets (LD), cytoplasmic structures surrounded by a protein-rich phospholipid monolayer. Although lipid synthesis is the hallmark of sebaceous gland cell differentiation, the LD-associated proteins of sebocytes have not been evaluated systematically. The LD fraction of SZ95 sebocytes was collected by density gradient centrifugation and associated proteins were analyzed by nanoliquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry. 54 proteins were significantly enriched in LD fractions, and 6 of them have not been detected previously in LDs. LD fractions contained high levels o...
