Factors Associated With Initial Prasugrel Versus Clopidogrel Selection for Patients With Acute Myocardial Infarction Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: Insights From the Treatment With ADP Receptor Inhibitors: Longitudinal Assessment of Treatment Patterns and Events After Acute Coronary Syndrome (TRANSLATE-ACS) Study Coronary Heart Disease
Conclusions In community practice, prasugrel use may be driven more by bleeding risk rather than ischemic benefit. This may result in underutilization of higher potency ADP receptor inhibitor among patients more likely to derive ischemic benefit.

Progression of CAC Score and Risk of Incident CVD
Conclusions Although CAC progression was independently, but modestly, associated with CVD outcomes, this relationship was no longer significant when including follow-up CAC in the model. These findings imply that if serial CAC scanning is performed, the latest scan should be used for risk assessment, and in this context, CAC progression provides no additional prognostic information.

Survival Benefits of Invasive Versus Conservative Strategies in Heart Failure in Patients With Reduced Ejection Fraction and Coronary Artery Disease: A Meta-Analysis Original Articles
Conclusions— The present meta-analysis indicates that revascularization strategies are superior to medical treatment in improving survival in patients with ischemic heart disease and reduced ejection fraction. Between the 2 revascularization strategies, CABG seems more favorable compared with PCI in this particular clinical setting.

Sex Differences in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention—Insights From the Coronary Angiography and PCI Registry of the German Society of Cardiology Coronary Heart Disease
ConclusionsDespite identical technical success rates of PCI between the 2 sexes, women with PCI for ST elevation myocardial infarction have a 20% higher age‐adjusted risk of death and of ischemic cardiac and cerebrovascular events. Further research is needed to determine the reasons for these differences.

Pathophysiologic role of ischemia reperfusion injury: a review
Publication date: Available online 19 June 2017 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Vishal Kumar Vishwakarma, Prabhat Kumar Upadhyay, Jeetendra Kumar Gupta, Harlokesh Narayan Yadav Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is the major cause of morbidity and mortality all over the world. World health organization (WHO) in 2002 assumed that IHD may be the major leading cause of death by 2020. An estimated 17 million people died from cardiovascular diseases (CVS) globally. Of these deaths, 7 million people died by ischemia heart disease and 6.2 million by stroke. Ischemia is defined as an insufficient supply of the...

Comparison of Early Outcomes and Restenosis Rate Between Carotid Endarterectomy and Carotid Artery Stenting Using Propensity Score Matching Analysis.
CONCLUSION: This PSM based observation reconfirmed previous trial results in both asymptomatic and symptomatic patients with carotid artery stenosis in routine clinical practice: CEA showed lower 30 day MACE and mid-term restenosis rates than CAS. PMID: 28893482 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Primary PCI versus Pharmaco-Invasive Strategy in Patients with ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction; a Randomized Clinical Study
Conclusion: Immediate fibrinolysis followed by coronary angiography 3-24 hr later resulted in similar short term outcome and earlier effective reperfusion in patients with STEMI compared to PPCI.Keywords:Fibrinolysis,PCI,Reperfusion,STEMIView:PDF (323.13 KB)Click here to download the PDF file.‹ Probability of Dying and Survival Analysis of Diabetic and/Hypertensive Patients Who Undergone Hemodialysis with Heart Disease Complication: A Comparison between a Hemodialysis Center Jakarta, Indonesia and Penang, MalaysiaAssessment of Risk Factors for the Cardiovascular Diseases in People Visiting a Tertiary Care Hospital for Ro...

International Study of Comparative Health Effectiveness with Medical and Invasive Approaches (ISCHEMIA) trial: Rationale and design
Conclusions ISCHEMIA will provide new scientific evidence regarding whether an invasive management strategy improves clinical outcomes when added to optimal medical therapy in patients with SIHD and moderate or severe ischemia.

Current Perspectives in Facilitated Angioplasty
Conclusions: With the current increased burden of acute coronary syndromes and the lack of immediate primary PCI facilities for all patients with STEMI, facilitated angioplasty seems a feasible therapeutic option. Another benefit of facilitated angioplasty may be represented by a major contribution of thrombolytic therapy in re-establishing microvascular myocardial blood flow.

Ability to Suppress TGF- β-Activated Myofibroblast Differentiation Distinguishes the Anti-pulmonary Fibrosis Efficacy of Two Danshen-Containing Chinese Herbal Medicine Prescriptions
Conclusion: This study suggests that a clinically efficacious cardiovascular Chinese herbal medicine (DLP) can be successfully repurposed to treat a lung disease in pulmonary fibrosis guided by TCM theory. Our comparative study between DLP and DHP demonstrated a critical requirement of suppressing both pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic pathways for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis, supporting that a multi-component prescription capable of “removing both phlegm and blood stasis” will better achieve co-protection of heart and lung in PHD. Introduction Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic ...

Outcomes of left Main revascularization in patients with acute coronary syndromes and stable ischemic heart disease: Analysis from the EXCEL trial
ConclusionsThe acuity of presentation did not predict outcomes in patients with LMCAD undergoing revascularization, nor did it discriminate patients who derive greater event-free survival from PCI versus CABG.
