High-sensitivity Cardiac Troponin and Natriuretic Peptide in Persons Without Cardiovascular Disease and Subsequent Risk of Infection: Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study.
Abstract Whether persons without prevalent cardiovascular disease (CVD) but elevated levels of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) or N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NTproBNP) are at high risk of infection is unknown. In the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study, we estimated the hazard ratios (HRs) of incident hospitalization with infection in relation to plasma hs-cTnT and NTproBNP among participants without prevalent CVD, and contrasted with those with prevalent CVD (coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke) from 1996 through 2013. In multivariable Cox model, prevalent CVD was sign...

Clinical Course, Management, and Outcomes of Pediatric Takayasu Arteritis Initially Presenting with Hypertension: a 16-year overview.
CONCLUSIONS: Majority of c-TA has hypertension, presenting with a more quiescent disease without typical systemic and/or ischemia symptoms, more localized abdominal lesions, higher proportion of revascularizations and better event-free survival. Three-year BP control is over 50%. Intervention particularly on renal artery is beneficial for BP control and decreased events. PMID: 31278892 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prognostic factors of long-term survival to guide selection of asymptomatic patients for carotid endarterectomy.
CONCLUSIONS: The presence of one or more prognostic factors as well as the various risk prediction models can guide selection of ACS patient subgroups for which a prophylactic CEA should or should not be offered. Decisions to offer prophylactic CEA should weigh in factors like surgeon's experience and hospital expertise/volume. Asymptomatic patients not expected to live long enough to benefit from the procedure should not be considered for CEA, but should be offered best medical treatment. Serious Adverse Events Cluster in Participants Experiencing the Primary Composite Cardiovascular Endpoint: A Post-Hoc Analysis of the SPRINT Trial.
CONCLUSIONS: The occurrence of SAEs is multifactorial and mostly related to pre-randomization patient characteristics, most prominently ASCVD risk, which, in turn, relates to in-study CVD events. PMID: 31930338 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association of prediabetes with CKD progression and adverse cardiovascular outcomes: an analysis of the CRIC study.
CONCLUSIONS: In individuals with CKD, prediabetes was not associated with composite renal outcome, but was associated with an increased risk of proteinuria progression and adverse CV outcomes. PMID: 31943096 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The Combination of Non-dipper Heart Rate and High Brain Natriuretic Peptide Predicts Cardiovascular Events: The Japan Morning Surge-Home Blood Pressure (J-HOP) Study.
CONCLUSION: The combination of non-dipper HR and higher BNP was associated with a higher incidence of cardiovascular events. PMID: 32090237 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effect of oral anticoagulation on clinical outcomes and haemodynamic variables after successful transcatheter aortic valve implantation.
CONCLUSIONS: Baseline characteristics, rather than oral anticoagulation prescription at discharge, were associated with adverse outcomes following successful transcatheter aortic valve implantation. Conversely, oral anticoagulation was associated with reduced valvular haemodynamic deterioration. PMID: 32115397 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Increased Urinary Liver-Type Fatty Acid-Binding Protein Level Predicts Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Patients with Hypertension.
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that increased urinary L-FABP levels may predict adverse cardiovascular events and renal dysfunction progression even among stable non-diabetic patients with hypertension. PMID: 32155236 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Relative impact of bleedings over ischaemic events in patients with heart failure: insights from the CARDIONOR registry
ConclusionsIn HF outpatients, antithrombotics are widely used. Bleeding occurs at a stable rate of 1.2% annually (as frequent as ischaemic events) and is associated with a dramatic increase in mortality (at least as severe as ischaemic events). Most events occurred in patients receiving anticoagulation. Knowledge of these findings may help physicians to manage antithrombotics in HF patients.

Application of the Modified High Bleeding Risk Criteria for Japanese Patients in an All-Comers Registry of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention - From the CREDO-Kyoto Registry Cohort-3.
CONCLUSIONS: The J-HBR criteria successfully identified those patients with very high bleeding risk after PCI, who represented 64% of patients in this all-comers registry. PMID: 33298644 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Comorbidities Among Young Adults with Congenital Heart Defects: Results from the Congenital Heart Survey To Recognize Outcomes, Needs, and well-beinG - Arizona, Arkansas, and Metropolitan Atlanta, 2016-2019.
Abstract An estimated 1.4 million adults in the United States live with congenital heart defects (CHDs), yet their health outcomes are not well understood (1). Using self-reported, cross-sectional data from 1,482 respondents in the 2016-2019 Congenital Heart Survey To Recognize Outcomes, Needs, and well-beinG (CH STRONG) (2), CDC and academic partners estimated the prevalence of comorbidities among adults with CHDs aged 20-38 years born in Arizona (AZ), Arkansas (AR), and metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia (GA) compared with the general population (aged 20-38 years) from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Su...

A case series analysis on the clinical experience of Impella 5.5 ® at a large tertiary care centre
ConclusionsIn this early experience of the pVAD 5.5, procedural and device-related complications were observed but were manageable, and overall survival was high in this critically ill cohort, particularly when the device was used as a bridge to other therapies.
