Socioeconomic Position and Incidence of Ischemic Stroke in Denmark 2003-2012. A Nationwide Hospital-Based Study Stroke
Conclusions In Denmark, there is a strong relation between low socioeconomic position and risk for hospitalization for stroke. Lifestyle, as indicated by smoking, obesity, and alcohol consumption, and diabetes appears to increase the risk for stroke in people with lower socioeconomic position.

Preadmission use of Glucocorticoids and Risk of Cardiovascular Events in Patients with Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: During the first year after ischemic stroke, current glucocorticoid use was associated with moderately increased risk of myocardial infarction and venous thromboembolism and lower risk of hemorrhagic stroke, while the risk of recurrent ischemic stroke was not affected. Forty-year Seasonality Trends in Occurrence of Myocardial Infarction, Ischemic Stroke, and Hemorrhagic Stroke
Conclusions: We found no substantial seasonality for MI, ischemic stroke, or hemorrhagic stroke occurrence during 1977−2016. Modest peak-to-trough ratios should be interpreted after considering bias induced by random variation.

A medical history of arterial thrombosis is a strong predictor of post-operative myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with hip fractures —a nationwide cohort study
ConclusionMI and stroke after hip fractures are overlooked and serious complications. Persons with elevated risk can be identified at admission, based on their medical history.

The Serotonin Transporter Gene Polymorphisms and Risk of Ischemic Stroke
Conclusion: The presence of the high expression SERT genotype (LALA) may be associated with a lower risk of ischemic stroke/TIA. This is, to our knowledge, the first study examining the SERT gene polymorphisms and the risk of stroke. The present results raise interesting considerations for future personalized medicine potential, and we argue that further larger-scale studies with sufficient power to study subgroups according to stroke etiology and stroke-onset age are needed.Cerebrovasc Dis 2018;45:187 –192

Depression, stroke, and dementia in patients with myocardial infarction.
In conclusion, we found that preceding depression was associated with moderately increased mortality after MI, and that
was associated with an increased risk of stroke and vascular dementia, but not dementia from other causes. PMID: 29619929 [PubMed - in process]

Coronary artery disease and risk of adverse cardiac events and stroke
ConclusionsThe presence and extent of coronary artery disease was associated with an incremental risk of not only death, cardiac death, myocardial infarction, but also ischemic stroke over a 7‐year period. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Stroke and myocardial infarction in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms and new-onset atrial fibrillation
Conclusion Cardiovascular prognosis has improved in patients with prevalent AAA disease and new-onset AF in concordance with optimization of antithrombotic therapy over time. A diagnosis of AF conferred residual risk of stroke and myocardial infarction.PMID:36626930 | DOI:10.1055/a-2009-8954

Migraine and risk of premature myocardial infarction and stroke among men and women: A Danish population-based cohort study
by Cecilia Hvitfeldt Fuglsang, Lars Pedersen, Morten Schmidt, Jan P. Vandenbroucke, Hans Erik B øtker, Henrik Toft Sørensen BackgroundMigraine carries risk of myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke. The risk of premature MI (i.e., among young adults) and stroke differs between men and women; previous studies indicate that migraine is mainly associated with an increased risk of stroke among young women. The aim of this study was to examine impact of migraine on the risk of premature (age ≤60 years) MI and ischemic/hemorrhagic stroke among men and women. Methods and findingsUsing Danish medical registries, we conducted a ...

Influenza vaccination and 1-year risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, pneumonia, and mortality among intensive care unit survivors aged 65  years or older: a nationwide population-based cohort study
ConclusionsCompared with the unvaccinated ICU survivors, the influenza vaccinated ICU survivors had a lower 1-year risk of stroke and a lower 1-year risk of death, whereas no substantial association was observed for the risk of hospitalization for myocardial infarction, heart failure, or pneumonia. Our findings support influenza vaccination of individuals aged  ≥ 65 years.

Risks of Cardiovascular Adverse Events and Death in Patients With Previous Stroke Undergoing Emergency Noncardiac, Nonintracranial Surgery: The Importance of Operative Timing
(Abstracted from Anesthesiology 127(1):9–19, 2017) The purpose of this study was to assess the risk of adverse events after emergency noncardiac, noncranial surgery in association with time elapsed after ischemic stroke by retrospectively analyzing the data from a nationwide study population from Denmark that covered patients older than 20 years undergoing the aforementioned emergency surgeries between 2005 and 2011. The primary outcomes measured were the 30-day all-cause mortality and a combined end point of 30-day major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), such as nonfatal myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke, ...
