Monoclonal antibodies in allergy; updated applications and promising trials.
Authors: Ozdemir C Abstract Allergic disorders, as asthma, allergic rhinitis/rhinoconjunctivitis, atopic dermatitis, food allergies and anaphylaxis have an increasing burden in the general population and a growing body of evidence has shown that an increased interest has aroused to seek for more effective treatment strategies. Conventional pharmacotherapy by antihistamines, anti-leukotrienes, corticosteroids and bronchodilators can routinely control most of the cases, in addition to allergen avoidance which saves the date. Furthermore, allergen specific immunotherapy stands as the only curative method to treat the ...

An update on ocular allergy
Purpose of review: The update reviews prevalence, classification, cause, and treatment options for allergic eye disease. Recent findings: The incidence of allergic eye disease is underreported but may affect almost all patients with allergic rhinitis. Increased rates of oculonasal symptoms have been reported in the United States resulting in significant economic expenditures. The spectrum of allergic conjunctivitis and its differential considerations include seasonal and perennial conjunctivitis, vernal and atopic keratoconjunctivitis, and giant papillary conjunctivitis. Patients with allergic conjunctivitis have classic ...

Investigation of the Possible Role of the Hippo/YAP1 Pathway in Asthma and Allergy.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results provided additional evidence that the FRMD6/Hippo/YAP1 pathway plays a role in the pathogenesis of asthma. If additional studies can confirm these findings, this pathway can be a potential novel therapeutic target in asthma and other inflammatory airway diseases. PMID: 28293931 [PubMed]

Body Mass Index and skin reactivity to histamine and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus in children and adolescents followed in a pediatric allergy service.
Conclusions. We did not document interference of nutritional status (ZBMI) on the skin reactivity to histamine or Dermatophagoiodes pteronyssinus in atopic patients. Further investigation is required. PMID: 28497673 [PubMed - in process]

Allergic sensitization to storage dust mites: a prospective study of patients with respiratory allergy.
Conclusions. Our study suggests that our population, independently of their occupational exposure and place of residency, are sensitized to SDM and that evaluation of sensitization to SDM should be considered as standard practice. PMID: 33191715 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Early food allergy and respiratory allergy symptoms, and attention ‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder in Chinese children: a cross‐sectional study
ConclusionsEarly food allergy is associated with ADHD in school‐age children. Early food allergy and respiratory allergy symptoms independently and synergistically contributed to higher risk of ADHD. Monitoring food allergy in early life could help the early prediction and intervention for the consequent allergy march and ADHD in children. This article is protected by copyright. Outcomes from a regional synchronous tele-allergy service
ConclusionCoupled with high patient satisfaction and significant time and cost savings, tele-allergy supported the majority of new and follow up visits without an in-person recommendation. While not all tele-allergy efforts incorporate a synchronous modality with a dedicated patient presenter, allergists should continue to seek opportunities to incorporate synchronous tele-allergy with a trained patient presenter into their clinical practice.

BSACI guideline for the diagnosis and management of peanut and tree nut allergy
Summary Peanut nut and tree nut allergy are characterised by IgE mediated reactions to nut proteins. Nut allergy is a global disease. Limited epidemiological data suggest varying prevalence in different geographical areas. Primary nut allergy affects over 2% of children and 0.5% of adults in the UK. Infants with severe eczema and/or egg allergy have a higher risk of peanut allergy. Primary nut allergy presents most commonly in the first five years of life, often after the first known ingestion with typical rapid onset IgE‐mediated symptoms. The clinical diagnosis of primary nut allergy can be made by the combination of a...

Health Economic Analysis of Allergen Immunotherapy (AIT) for the Management of Allergic Rhinitis, Asthma, Food Allergy and Venom Allergy: A Systematic Overview
ConclusionsOverall the evidence to support the cost‐effectiveness of AIT is limited and of low methodological quality, but suggests that AIT may be cost‐effective for people with allergic rhinitis with or without asthma and in high risk subgroups for venom allergy. We were unable to draw any conclusions on the cost‐effectiveness of AIT for food allergy. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
