Abstract Tetracyclines are a class of antibiotics which could act as neuroprotective molecules in several neurological disorders, such as Huntington disease, Parkinson disease, stroke and multiple sclerosis. The main biological effects of tetracyclines are the inhibition of microglial activation, the attenuation of apoptosis and the suppression of reactive oxygen species production. Safety of diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis and inactivated poliovirus (DTaP-IPV) vaccine.
CONCLUSIONS: In this safety surveillance study of more than 200,000 DTaP-IPV vaccine recipients, there was no evidence of increased risk for any of the pre-specified adverse events monitored. Continued surveillance of DTaP-IPV vaccine safety may be warranted to monitor for rare adverse events, such as Guillain-Barré syndrome. PMID: 24699471 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

An unusual case of dengue infection presenting with hypokalemic paralysis with hypomagnesemia
Dengue is the most common arboviral disease prevalent mainly in tropical and subtropical regions [1,2]. It is caused by four serotypes, belonging to family flaviviridae [2]. Dengue can have diverse presentation, from asymptomatic infection to undifferentiated fever, dengue fever, dengue hemorrhagic fever, or dengue shock syndrome [1,3]. Neurological manifestations although rare, may include encephalopathy, meningoencephalitis, myositis, rhabdomyolysis, myelitis, stroke, hypokalemic paralysis, Guillain Barre Syndrome, papilledema, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, neuromyelitis optica and optic neuritis [4,5].

Isolated Tongue Hemi-Atrophy from Hypoglossal-Vertebral Entrapment Syndrome (P3.377)
Conclusion: Hypoglossal vertebral entrapment syndrome from a structural vascular anomaly or anomalous vascular course is an extremely rare cause of isolated hypoglossal nerve palsy. Only a few cases have been reported in the literature.
