Biomarkers and their combination in a prediction of decompensation after an index hospitalization for acute heart failure
CONCLUSION: BNP, cystatin C, and CA125 are predictors of decompensation, and their combined usage leads to better prediction of new decompensation.PMID:37636186 | PMC:PMC10451570 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1456_22

Modeling Gamma Knife Radiosurgical Toxicity for Multiple Brain Metastases
CONCLUSION: Surface area was the most accurate univariate predictor of V12 for metastatic lesions. We developed a preplan model for brain metastases that can help better estimate radionecrosis risk, determine prescription doses given a target V12, and provide safe dose escalation strategies without the use of any planning software.PMID:37640162 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109874

Assessment and tailored physical rehabilitation approaches in persons with cerebellar impairments targeting mobility and walking according to the International Classification of Functioning: a systematic review of case-reports and case-series
CONCLUSIONS: A comprehensive test battery to encompass the key features of a PwCI on different levels of the ICF is needed to manage heterogeneity. Measures on body function level should be included in interventions.PMID:37639546 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2248886

Effects of mitragynine on viability, proliferation, and migration of C6 rat glioma, SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma, and HT22 immortalized mouse hippocampal neuron cell lines
This study aimed to investigate the antitumor effects of MG in C6 rat glioma and SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma tumor cell lines compared with those in the non-tumor HT22 mouse hippocampal neuronal cell line. MTT assay for cell viability, clonogenic and wound healing assays for cell migration, Hoechst 33342/propidium iodide staining for nuclear morphology, and cell cycle distribution using flow cytometry were performed. MG at 125.47 μM (50 μg/ml) significantly reduced the viability of all cell lines, and the clonogenicity of C6 glioma cells began decreasing at 75.28 μM (30 μg/ml) of MG. Cell migration was inhibited in C6 ...

Spectral flow cytometry identifies distinct nonneoplastic plasma extracellular vesicle phenotype in glioblastoma patients
CONCLUSIONS: Multiparametric analysis demonstrates that GBM patients have a distinct nonneoplastic plasma EV phenotype compared to ND. This simple rapid analysis can be performed without purifying tumor EVs and may serve as the basis of a liquid biopsy.PMID:37638345 | PMC:PMC10457026 | DOI:10.1093/noajnl/vdad082

Bevacizumab plus erlotinib versus erlotinib alone for advanced EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer: a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
CONCLUSIONS: Combination of bevacizumab and erlotinib can prolong progression-free survival but not overall survival compared to erlotinib alone in advanced EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer patients. The combination therapy not only can prolong progression-free survival but also has a tendency to prolong overall survival for patients with brain metastasis at baseline.PMID:37635242 | DOI:10.1186/s40001-023-01272-7

Synthesis and biological evaluation of simplified ajudazol derivatives reveal potent 5-lipoxygenase inhibition and considerable apoptotic activity in neuroblastoma cells
Bioorg Med Chem Lett. 2023 Aug 25:129464. doi: 10.1016/j.bmcl.2023.129464. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSimplified analogues of the myxobacterial polyketide ajudazol were obtained by synthesis and evaluated for their biological activities. Potent simplified 5-lipoxygenase inhibitors were identified. Moreover, strong antiproliferative and apoptotic activities were observed in brain cancer cell lines at low nano- to micromolar concentrations.PMID:37634760 | DOI:10.1016/j.bmcl.2023.129464

Real-life evidence about the use of intravenous brivaracetam in urgent seizures: The BRIV-IV study
CONCLUSION: IV-BRV in emergency settings was effective, and tolerability was good for most patients. However, a larger series is needed to confirm the outcomes.PMID:37634373 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2023.109384

Repetitive and compulsive behavior after Early-Life-Pain associated with reduced long-chain sphingolipid species
CONCLUSION: The results suggest that ELP may predispose to chronic "pain" and compulsive psychopathology in part mediated by alterations of sphingolipid metabolism, which have been previously described in the context of addiction and psychiatric diseases.PMID:37635256 | DOI:10.1186/s13578-023-01106-3
