A minireview on NHE1 inhibitors. A rediscovered hope in oncohematology.
CONCLUSIONS: Sorafenib is used for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia patients carrying internal tandem duplication of fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3-ITD) mutation. 5-(N, N-hexamethylene)-amiloride can increase the suppression of FLT3 signaling by sorafenib. NHE-1 inhibitors are able to increase the sensitivity of chronic myeloid leukemia cells to tyrosine kinase inhibitors, including through the inhibition of P-glycoprotein. NHE-1 inhibitors are promising adjuvant drugs for overcoming acquired resistance to treatment in various malignant hemopathies. PMID: 26725705 [PubMed - in process]

Evaluation of Structural Factors Potentially Implicated in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A report of the MIGICCL
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common cancer in the pediatric population; ∼80% of the cases show some translocation. Translocations that result in ALL are due to chromosome breaks. However, the exact mechanisms that cause these breaks have not been well studied. A detailed search of the breakpoints associated with ALL reported in the NCBI database shows that some are co ncentrated in limited regions of the chromosome, whereas others are scattered throughout. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify the structural factors involved in chromosomal breaks in ALL.

Migratory large vessel vasculitis preceding acute myeloid leukemia: a case report
ConclusionsLarge vessel vasculitis in older individuals presenting with atypical clinical features, such as a migratory pattern of affected vessels, vessel wall tenderness, and marked systemic inflammation, should prompt a search for underlying myelodysplasia. Clinicians should be vigilant for progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Cell free nucleic acids as diagnostic and prognostic marker in leukemia
SummaryNucleic acids in circulation, called cell free DNA (cfDNA) and cell free RNA (cfRNA), have recently been analyzed as suitable diagnostic and prognostic markers in cancer. There have also been several reports about the role of this type of marker in leukemia. The relevant literature was identified by a  PubMed search (2000–2017) of English-language literature using the terms “cell free DNA”, “Leukemia” and Micro-RNA. Many quantitative and qualitative cfDNA biomarkers including copy number alteration, mutation, LOH and micro-RNA deregulated expression have been investigated in different studies, indicating ...

Galactomannan use in clinical practice: providing free testing is not the answer.
CONCLUSION: The correct use of GM testing is essential for an early diagnosis of IA, which may improve the prognosis of the disease. We demonstrated that clinicians usually ask for GM tests to confirm imaging findings, something that could be improved by medical education activities. We observed a low frequency of GM use for preemptive antifungal therapy (25.7%), which is worrying considering the well-known beneficial use of GM testing in this scenario. Galactomannan use in clinical practice: providing free testing is not the full answer
Conclusion The correct use of galactomannan testing is essential for an early diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis, which may improve the prognosis of the disease. We demonstrated that clinicians usually ask for galactomannan tests to confirm imaging findings in patients who frequently were on antifungal drugs, something that could be improved by medical education. We observed a low frequency of galactomannan use for preemptive antifungal therapy (25.7%), which is worrying considering the well-known beneficial use of GM testing in this scenario.

A Systems Biology-Based Approach to Uncovering Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Effects of Traditional Chinese Medicine Qingdai in Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, Involving Integration of Network Pharmacology and Molecular Docking Technology.
CONCLUSIONS The results suggest that Isdirubin plays a role in resistance to CML by altering the expressions of PIK3CA, MYC, JAK2, and TP53 target proteins. Network pharmacology and molecular docking technology can be used to search for possible reactive molecules in traditional chinese medicines (TCM) and to elucidate their molecular mechanisms. Genetic algorithm based cancerous gene identification from microarray data using ensemble of filter methods
AbstractMicroarray datasets play a crucial role in cancer detection. But the high dimension of these datasets makes the classification challenging due to the presence of many irrelevant and redundant features. Hence, feature selection becomes irreplaceable in this field because of its ability to remove the unrequired features from the system. As the task of selecting the optimal number of features is an NP-hard problem, hence, some meta-heuristic search technique helps to cope up with this problem. In this paper, we propose a 2-stage model for feature selection in microarray datasets. The ranking of the genes for the diffe...

Systematic Review of an Automated Multiclass Detection and Classification System for Acute Leukaemia in Terms of Evaluation and Benchmarking, Open Challenges, Issues and Methodological Aspects
This study aims to systematically review prior research on the evaluation and benchmarking of automated acute leukaemia classification tasks. The review depends on three reliable search engines: ScienceDirect, Web of Science and IEEE Xplore. A research taxonomy developed for the review considers a wide perspective for automated detection and classification of acute leukaemia research and reflects the usage trends in the evaluation criteria in this field. The developed taxonomy consists of three main research directions in this domain. The taxonomy involves two phases. The first phase includes all three research directions....
