Building a gold standard to construct search filters: a case study with biomarkers for oral cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: The gold standard dataset is likely to be high quality and useful for future development and evaluation of filters for OSCC studies of potential prognostic biomarkers.
IMPLICATIONS: The methodology we used is generalizable to other domains requiring a reference standard to evaluate the performance of search filters. A gold standard is essential because the labels regarding relevance enable computation of diagnostic metrics, such as sensitivity and specificity. The Prognostic and Clinical Value of CD44 in Colorectal Cancer: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: This meta-analysis demonstrated that CD44 overexpression might be an unfavorable prognostic factor for CRC patients and could be used to predict poor differentiation, lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis.

The surgical management of male breast cancer: Time for an easy access national reporting database?
We report a series of seven cases of male breast cancer encountered over three years, evaluating patient demographics as well as treatment and outcomes. Search for potential Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase inhibitors with favorable ADMET profiles for the therapy of Helicobacter pylori infections.
CONCLUSION: The top-ranked compounds from the virtual screening workflow show promising results regarding the iNOS inhibition profile. The results evidenced the importance of the ionic bonding during docking selection, playing a crucial role in binding and positioning during ligand-target selection for iNOS.

Biomarker Analyses of Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma Treated With Sorafenib With or Without Erlotinib in the SEARCH Trial.
CONCLUSIONS: Baseline plasma HGF, VEGF-A, KIT, and VEGF-C correlated with clinical outcomes in HCC patients treated with sorafenib with or without erlotinib. These biomarkers plus epigen constituted a multimarker signature for improved OS.

Large deletion at the CDC73 gene locus and search for predictive markers of the presence of a CDC73 genetic lesion.
We report a novel large genomic CDC73 gene deletion identified in an Italian HPT-JT family. Age at onset < 41.5 ys and Ca2+ > 13.96 mg/dL are predictive for the presence of a CDC73 genetic lesion.
