A Comparison of Recommendations for Pharmacologic Thromboembolism Prophylaxis After Caesarean Delivery From 3 Major Guidelines
(BJOG. 2016;123:2157–2162) Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality. Women undergoing cesarean delivery, especially those with other risk factors such as obesity, are considered at increased risk. Mechanical VTE prophylaxis with pneumatic compression devices is recommended for all women undergoing cesarean delivery. The use of postcesarean pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis, either unfractionated or low-molecular weight heparin, has been recommended in women with additional risk factors. However, the optimal clinical strategy for postcesarean pharmacologic prophylaxis is unclear,...

[Medical treatment of endometriosis: Hormonal treatment of pain, impact on evolution and future perspectives].
CONCLUSION: Hormonal treatment of endometriosis relies on combined hormonal contraceptives (using different routes of administration), progestins and particularly the levonorgestrel-releasing IUS, and GnRH analogs as a last option, in combination with an add-back therapy. Promising alternatives are currently under preclinical and clinical evaluation. PMID: 29133081 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Presse Medicale)

The Treatment of Illnesses Arising in Pregnancy.
CONCLUSION: When illnesses unrelated to pregnancy arise in pregnant women, attention must be paid to potential diver gences from the typical disease course and to pos sible drug side effects on the fetus in order to prevent serious complications for both mother and child. Prevention of RhD Alloimmunization: A Comparison of Four National Guidelines
Conclusion These variations in recommendations reflect the heterogeneity of the literature on the prevention of alloimmunization and highlight the need for synthesis of evidence to create an international guideline on prevention of alloimmunization. This may improve safety, quality, optimize outcomes, and stimulate future trials. [Epidemiology, Risk Factors and Risk Stratification of Venous Thromboembolism in Pregnancy and the Puerperium].
Abstract Venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains a leading cause of direct maternal deaths in the developed countries. The incidence of VTE has increased significantly during the past two decades. The absolute risk of VTE is estimated 0.6-2.2 per 1000 deliveries. Compared with age-matched non-pregnant women, the daily risk of VTE is increased 7- to 10-fold for antepartum VTE, but it is 15- to 35-fold for postpartum VTE. The incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE) during the first 6 weeks postpartum is nearly 15-fold higher compared to the incidence in pregnancy, and remains significantly increased up to 12 weeks...

The management of pregnant women with epilepsy: a multidisciplinary collaborative approach to care
Key content Epilepsy is the most common serious neurological problem encountered in pregnancy; however, women with epilepsy are often not referred to high‐risk pregnancy services. The 2015 Mothers and Babies: Reducing Risk through Audits and Confidential Enquiries across the UK (MBRRACE‐UK) report on maternal mortality highlights that the care of pregnant women with epilepsy requires urgent improvement. The two most recently available guidelines (Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists guidelines) require comparative critical appraisal. Collaboration between...

Cerclage Use: A Review of 3 National Guidelines
Conclusions: A cohesive international guideline may improve safety and quality and optimize patient outcomes. Target Audience: Obstetricians and gynecologists, family physicians. Learning Objectives: After completing this activity, the learner should be better able to outline variations in indications and contraindications for cervical cerclage use by international guideline, identify variation in perioperative considerations for cervical cerclage use by international guideline, and recognize variation in timing of removal by international guideline. Performance of ultrasound ‐based endometriosis staging system (UBESS) for predicting level of complexity of laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis
ConclusionUBESS could be utilized to predict the level of complexity of laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis. It has the potential to facilitate the triage of women with suspected endometriosis to the most appropriate surgical expertise required for laparoscopic endometriosis surgery. UBESS needs to be validated externally in multiple centers to assess its general applicability. Copyright © 2016 ISUOG. Published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.
