Networked maternal medicine services in England and the role of the obstetric physician
AbstractSince the first report of the UK Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Deaths in 1952, there has been a dramatic reduction in the maternal death rate. This has been achieved partly through better understanding of obstetric complications and advances in medical and surgical therapies and also due to the development of, and adherence to, evidence ‐based guidelines, developed by national bodies such as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). Evaluation of the Anopress ® device in assessment of obstetric anal sphincter injuries in a specialist urogynaecology service
Obstetric anal sphincter injuries remain an important cause of faecal incontinence in women (1,2). Postnatal follow up of these women in specialist perineal clinics with access to endoanal ultrasound and anal manometry is recommended by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), depending on available local resources (3). This is not only useful to assess and treat their symptoms if any, but can also aid in decisions regarding mode of delivery in future pregnancies. IJERPH, Vol. 17, Pages 8277: Guidelines for Pregnancy Management During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Public Health Conundrum
Reich Pregnant women seem to be at risk for developing complications from COVID-19. Given the limited knowledge about the impact of COVID-19 on pregnancy, management guidelines are fundamental. Our aim was to examine the obstetrics guidelines released from December 2019 to April 2020 to compare their recommendations and to assess how useful they could be to maternal health workers. We reviewed 11 guidelines on obstetrics management, assessing four domains: 1) timeliness: the time between the declaration of pandemics by WHO and a guideline release and update; 2) accessibility: the readiness to access a guideline by s...
