New developments in neonatal respiratory management
Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is the major cause of respiratory failure in preterm infants due to immature lung development and surfactant deficiency. Although the concepts and methods of managing respiratory problems in neonates have changed continuously, determining appropriate respiratory treatment with minimal ventilation-induced lung injury and complications is crucially important. This review summarizes neonatal respiratory therapy's advances and available strategies (i.e., exogenous surfactant therapy, noninvasive ventilation, and different ventilation modes), focusing on RDS management. Lee Silverman Voice Treatment to Improve Speech in Parkinson's Disease: A Systemic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis demonstrated the efficacy of LSVT in increasing vocal loudness and functional communication among individuals with PD. However, most studies included participants with mild-moderate PD. Thus, additional randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with large sample sizes are needed to validate the efficacy of LSVT in patients with different progressions of PD, including severe PD.PMID:35070257 | PMC:PMC8782619 | DOI:10.1155/2021/3366870 (Source: Parkinsons Disease)

Potential therapeutic options for COVID-19: an update on current evidence
AbstractSARS-CoV-2, a novel coronavirus, is the agent responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic and is a major public health concern nowadays. The rapid and global spread of this coronavirus leads to an increase in hospitalizations and thousands of deaths in many countries. To date, great efforts have been made worldwide for the efficient management of this crisis, but there is still no effective and specific treatment for COVID-19. The primary therapies to treat the disease are antivirals, anti-inflammatories and respiratory therapy. In addition, antibody therapies currently have been a many active and essential part of SARS-...

Getting to know you: implementing an interprofessional education program for medical and respiratory therapy students in mechanical ventilation - challenges and lessons learned
J Interprof Care. 2021 Dec 2:1-10. doi: 10.1080/13561820.2021.1982883. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe physician and respiratory therapist function as an interprofessional team caring for patients on mechanical ventilation. There is a paucity of research devoted to interprofessional education (IPE) of students from different professions in mechanical ventilation during clinical rotations in the medical intensive care unit (MICU). Student interprofessional education could develop team communication and shared decision-making skills early in training. The uniqueness of this introductory IPE programme is that it occurs duri...
