Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of Hepatitis B Virus in Gulf Cooperation Council Countries: Current Status and Future Prospects
In conclusion, all GCC countries achieved hepatitis B vaccination targets and countries with available data have either achieved or are close to achieving EMTCT of HBV. Remaining countries need to implement hepatitis B serosurveys to track progress to EMTCT of HBV.PMID:38081049 | DOI:10.4269/ajtmh.23-0587 (Source: Am J Trop Med Hyg)

Estimating protection afforded by prior infection in preventing reinfection: Applying the test-negative study design
Am J Epidemiol. 2023 Dec 7:kwad239. doi: 10.1093/aje/kwad239. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to use infection testing databases to rapidly estimate effectiveness of prior infection in preventing reinfection ($P{E}_S$) by novel SARS-CoV-2 variants. Mathematical modeling was used to demonstrate a theoretical foundation for applicability of the test-negative, case-control study design to derive $P{E}_S$. Apart from the very early phase of an epidemic, the difference between the test-negative estimate for $P{E}_S$ and true value of $P{E}_S$ was minimal and became negligible as the ...

Rule of 15: Improving hypoglycemia management by using a standard protocol at long-term facility
Rationale: Long-term Care Facility in Qatar has residents with multiple co-morbidities. Approximately a third of residents have Diabetes Mellitus. Complications such as hypoglycemia can infrequently occur amongst them. Sub-standard management may lead to increased glucose variability which in turn increases the risk of mortality. An audit revealed only 12% of the staff followed hypoglycemia management as per a standard protocol. Aim was to increase the percentage of staff at the long-term care facility using a standard protocol from 12% to 100% over 12 months. (Source: Clinical Nutrition ESPEN)

Fluid overload and association of hidden fluid administration: Improve fluid assessment and management using “FAM” protocol at enaya specialized care center
Rationale: Enaya Specialized Care Center in Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar is a 200-bedded long-term care facility to residents who have multiple comorbidities and behavioral problems, all are high risk of dehydration.on artificial feeding, IV fluids may need to be given urgently and fluid intake through feeding tube will need to be appropriately amended as per the requirements. If managed improperly then it is associated with increased risk of mortality and morbidity (Source: Clinical Nutrition ESPEN)
