ONECUT1 variants beyond type 1 and type 2 diabetes: exploring clinical diversity and epigenetic associations in Arab cohorts
ONECUT1 gene, encoding hepatocyte nuclear factor 6, is involved in pancreas and liver development. ONECUT1 mutations impair the function of pancreatic β-cells and control a transcriptional/epigenetic machinery regulating endocrine development. Homozygous nonsense and missense mutations at ONECUT1_p.E231 and a homozygous frameshift mutation at ONECUT1_p.M289 were reported in neonatal diabetes individuals of French, Turkish, and Indian ethnicity, respectively. Additionally, heterozygous variants were observed in Northern European T2D patients, and Italian patients with neonatal diabetes and early-/late-onset T2D. Examining ...

Immunoglobulin treatment for hospitalised infants and young children with respiratory syncytial virus infection
CONCLUSIONS: We are very uncertain about the effect of immunoglobulins on mortality. We are moderately certain that use of immunoglobulins in hospitalised infants and children may result in little to no difference in the length of hospitalisation. Immunoglobulins may result in little to no difference in adverse events, the need for or duration of mechanical ventilation, supplemental oxygen, or admission to the intensive care unit, though we are less certain about this evidence and the true effect of immunoglobulins on these outcomes may differ markedly from the estimated effect observed in this review. All trials were cond...

Clinical and epidemiological features and therapeutic options of avascular necrosis in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD): a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: In SCD patients, AVN occurred more during the 3rd and 4th decades of life. The majority of AVN represented with advanced stage and had multiple joint involvements. We recommend adopting a low threshold of joint imaging for early detection and prevention of further complications.PMID:37850770 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94i5.14603 (Source: Acta Bio-Medica : Atenei Parmensis)
