A Biodegradable Janus Sponge for Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
Biomacromolecules. 2024 Mar 28. doi: 10.1021/acs.biomac.4c00046. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNegative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is effective in repairing serious skin injury. The dressing used in the NPWT is important for wound healing. In this paper, we develop biodegradable amphiphilic polyurethanes (PUs) and fabricate the PUs into sponges as wound dressings (Bi@e) with Janus pore architectures for NPWT. The Bi@e is adaptive to all the stages of the wound healing process. The Janus Bi@e sponge consists of two layers: the dense hydrophobic upper layer with small pores provides protection and support during negative ...

Improving nutritional care for older adults: the role of massive open online courses and implementation science in enhancing health professional knowledge and attitudes
Commentary on: Eglseer D. Development and evaluation of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for healthcare professionals on malnutrition in older adults. Nurse Educ Today. 2023 Apr;123:105741. doi: 10.1016/j.nedt.2023.105741. Epub 2023 Feb 4. CommentaryImplications for practice and research Massive open online course (MOOCs) can improve health professionals (HPs)’ knowledge and nutritional care skills for malnutrition in older adults efficiently. Implementation science studies are necessary to effectively change HPs’ behaviours and attitudes towards malnutrition by considering organisational, cultural and self-...

Amputation-free Home Management of Infected Lower Extremity Pressure Ulcer through Shared Decision-making: Enhancing the Quality of Life and Highlighting Societal Significance in Home Care
Intern Med. 2024 Mar 25. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.2881-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHome healthcare is important for allowing patients to live their lives. However, home-care bedridden patients often experience pressure ulcers in the lower extremities, which can lead to life-threatening infections requiring decisions on the need for amputation. We herein report a patient with an infected lower-limb pressure ulcer with a history of spinal injury. The patient, his family, and the home-care physician repeatedly shared decision-making to deliver home-based treatment instead of amputation. Administration of wound dres...

Incidence and healing times of postoperative sternal wound infections: a retrospective observational single-centre study
Conclusions: Postoperative sternal wound infections usually appeared several weeks after surgery and were associated with factors as high body mass index, diabetes mellitus and coronary artery bypass. SWI were more common than mediastinitis and often required negative pressure wound therapy and similar treatment time as mediastinitis.PMID:38500294 | DOI:10.1080/14017431.2024.2330349 (Source: Scandinavian Cardiovascular Journal)
