Managing incisional wounds with Prevena VAC therapy in lower-extremity vascular surgery: A comparative study
CONCLUSION: The results of our study suggest there should be a significant consideration for the use of NPWT as a prophylactic measure to reduce the risk of wound complications of primarily closed infra-inguinal incisions in vascular surgery patients following common vascular procedures. Its use is particularly effective for patients at enhanced risk of infection, especially those with poor vascularization from BMI, smoking, and diabetes. This leads to decreased trends in antibiotic use, ED visits, readmissions, and surgical revisions, which translates to decreased utilization of hospital resources and economic burden.PMID...

The Perfect Step is the first one: Improving the quality of life for patients with spinal cord injuries through structured exercise
CONCLUSION/CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Patients with SCI engaging in a structured exercise program demonstrated sustainable, longitudinal improvements in mood, pain control, independence, and fewer impairments related to bladder function and pressure ulcers. Physicians should consider the integration of structured exercise into the rehabilitation program alongside traditional medical care to optimize the quality of life for those with SCI. Future research should involve a direct comparison of QoL in patients with SCI participating in structured exercise versus those who are not.PMID:38588028 | DOI:10.1080/10790268.2024.2336276 (So...

Opportunity for a Community Health Fair Model of Bleeding Control Training
This study investigated the efficacy of training large and diverse audiences in bleeding control methods including tourniquets in community health fair settings.METHODS: A booth was utilized for bleeding control training at community health fairs via direct demonstrations of pressure, wound packing, and commercial and improvised tourniquet application followed by hands-on practice. Participants self-rated their perceived abilities while instructors rated the participant competency.RESULTS: 117 community members participated during two fairs, though not every person completed every portion of the training. Average age was 3...

The application of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) in  potentially lethal conditions
Magy Seb. 2024 Apr 2;77(1):28-32. doi: 10.1556/1046.2024.10006. Print 2024 Apr 2.ABSTRACTBemutatásra kerülő esetünkben egy 47 éves, generalizált septicus állapotú férfi beteg komplex terápiás megoldást igénylő kezelését ismertetjük, negatív nyomásterápia segítségével (NPWT). A páciens kezeletlen diabéteszes láb szindróma talaján kialakult szepszis, fasciitis necrotisans klinikai-radiomorfológiai képével került osztályunkra, akinél sürgősséggel feltárást, az alsó végtag valamennyi kompartmentjét érintő fasciotomiát végeztünk, NPWT-kezelést indítottunk. Kezelése során a bete...
