PICU Problemz
So I’m covering our Neuro ICU on nights these days and got what has to be one of the strangest calls I’ve ever received last night. PED calls requesting to admit a pregnant 16 year old in DKA to our adult NeuroICU because it was refused by picu and MICU. No Neuro complaints. So I call PICU to see what the hell is up. Hello? Is this PICU Fellow? Can you help me understand why you all are refusing to admit a kid to the peds ICU who’s in DKA? Yea. She’s pregnant and our peds... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Lactation/pregnancy meds app
Hey all, I figured I’d post this here for some ideas. Does anybody have a useful resource or app for appropriate medications during pregnancy and even better for during lactation? I know LactMed had a good following but has been discontinued. Obviously, I can go on U2D and research meds individually but was hoping for a faster resource during a busy ED shift. Any thoughts? Being a resident and being pregnant
I am not sure where I heard this from, but I was told that residency programs don't prefer residents to be pregnant and give birth while they are in the program. Is that true ? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

First Failure with advise.
Well I managed to pass all my classes, pass boards and do generally good. However, I finally had my first failure with a final grade sitting at 69.3. The moral of the story, don’t let yourself burn out because this is how I ended up here. The course was a pediatric course. I’ve been trying to get pregnant for sometime with out success. Seeing all the baby images finally tipped me over the edge. I learned burn out is staring at a lecture for hours without retaining information. Take a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Clinicial Shadowing
How is everyone finding shadowing opportunities? I live in Maryland and with COVID, it's been impossible to find in-person shadowing opportunities. To make things harder, I can't just take a job in a dental office. I have a full-time job, am the primary bread winner, and have a 1.5 yo. I have every other Friday off which is how I was squeezing in shadowing hours pre-COVID and pregnancy but there are no opportunities to be found. Does anyone have any suggestions or leads in the DMV area? I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Progesterone Question
Okay, I have been confused about this for almost a year now. Can someone please explain to me how progesterone can maintain and thicken the endometrium during the menstrual cycle but also thin the endometrium when used as contraception? I am struggling to understand how it both promotes pregnancy and prevents pregnancy. (I know it has other effects like thickening cervical mucus, I'm specifically wondering about the endometrial lining!) Thanks in advance! (Source: Student Doctor Network)
