Is gabapentin and/or lyrica safe in pregnancy and/or breastfeeding patients?
Reviewing the literature online, seems to be somewhat limited in recommendations: Gabapentin and breastfeeding: a case report. - PubMed - NCBI Adverse pregnancy outcomes in women exposed to gabapentin and pregabalin: data from a population-based study | Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry Your thoughts SDN? And if safe, up to normal max doses (3600 mg/300 mg)? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pregnant residents amid the apocalypse
I recognize I'm probably reaching out to a very small number of people - those surgical (or other) residents who happen to be pregnant during this pandemic. Just curious what people's experiences have been. I'm full term but working normally without any extra precautions except those put in place by the hospital for all residents. Our hospital happens to have a fairly high burden of COVID-19 infected patients both admitted and showing up symptomatic to the ED for r/o. I have mixed... Covid-19 and Labor & Deliveries
Labor and Delivery is definitely a unique unit in the hospital that deals with unique patients, even in ordinary times. But these are not ordinary times. I'm wondering what measures y'all's shops are taking to prepare for a surge in Covid-19 cases. There's not really a standard playbook for dealing with this type of crisis in the modern US, especially as it pertains to pregnant patients, so we can hopefully share some good ideas. AMC vs VCU
Ugh. My brain hurts from thinking about this! I'm a VA resident but originally from the northeast and have lived far away from family for the last 6 years so here it goes. VCU: Pros- Cheaper by a lot Better school Nicer newer facilities Close to where we live now Downsides- No support system locally Worse public schools for my kids AMC: Pros- Closer to my very involved family (2ish hours) and we have one kid and I'm pregnant so that will be huge Students seemed really cool and... Maternity leave in fellowship
Hi all! Have a question regarding fellowship but since there is not a general page for fellows, I am posting here. I had my first baby my first year of fellowship. I used all of my vacation time, and another 4 weeks no pay which I have to make up at the end of my fellowship. I am now pregnant again, and still bitter about my short, unpaid maternity leave. So this time I will be taking 16 weeks afforded to me by short term disability and FMLA. I cannot stress enough that my program is... Maternity leave in fellowship (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pregnant at USUHS
Hey guys, so my husband and I are thinking about starting a family soon. I’m about 2 years from graduating with my bachelors and I’m looking to go to USUHS. Would anything major happened if I got pregnant while at USUHS? I see they have day care on base so they’re prepared for people with families, but I was just wondering. What would be a not so bad time to have a child? (My husband wants his first by 23 which is next year and I want to be done having kids by 30) I’m 19 currently (turning... When your Pain Doctor is also a Mom...
When the Surgeon Is a Mom Nearly 40 percent of pregnant surgery residents consider dropping out. Many wonder: Why can’t the system accommodate motherhood? www.nytimes.com "Dr. Shubeck recalled that in medical school, someone told her he had “never met a happy female surgeon.” Now when she is approached by younger female surgeons, she assures them that she is fighting for institutional changes that will ease their career paths. She is part of a network of Michigan “doctor... When your Pain Doctor is also a Mom... (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Accepted--- now I need help.
Please don't quote due to sensitive nature. I've been lucky enough to be admitted to multiple MD programs as a reapplicant. I'm supposed to start in July, but the twist is that I just found out yesterday that I'm pregnant. It's still very early so I'm not yet sure how things will go but if I don't miscarry, I would be due in the early fall. This will be my second child, my first is two and I'm married with a supportive spouse. We did want another kid.... but were planning to shoot more... Accepted--- now I need help. Fluoro and pregnancy
How bad of an idea is it to be pregnant with adequate lead coverage during early months of pregnancy? I had a fellow resident who was pregnant who changed her rotations around to avoid any exposure, however it's my understanding that overall the exposure with adequate coverage is ultimately fine. I know most of you are men - not sure if there are any female pain docs who could chime in? Sigh. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
