How long to take off for maternity leave?
Am currently pregnant & due in the last month of my PGY1 year. Will be a first time mom. My program offers 12 weeks (6wks paid, 6 wks unpaid) of maternity leave. Since I've never had a baby before, I'd love to know how long of a leave do you all suggest? I'm in FM residency. I want to take enough time off to properly take care of my baby & slowly recover. But I'd also like to not be completely rusty & out of touch with medicine when I return... or be really bored at home & regret taking too... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Post interview conflict of interest?
I interviewed at a school a couple of weeks ago. This morning, I learned that my faculty interviewer from the school I interviewed at is the new OBGYN for one of my pregnant clients. Part of my job requires me to frequently take clients to appointments where I often stay throughout them. I also sometimes serve as the point of contact for the client's healthcare team. I have heard that sometimes the interviewer is involved in the admissions process for this school, but am unsure in this... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PCS without completing BOLC
I'm a female, army HPSP grad, and currently in residency. My husband and I are considering starting a family near the end of my residency. Due to the DCC changes, I have yet to complete BOLC. Normally I would complete BOLC before starting my first PCS, but I will hopefully be pregnant at the end of my residency (and deliver in the first few months of my first PCS). Pregnancy will obviously exclude me from BOLC, but will I still be allowed to start my first job without completing it? My... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

RSV Vaccine
Strong RSV vaccine data lifts hopes after years of futility New research shows vaccinating pregnant women helped protect their newborns from the common but scary respiratory virus called RSV that fills hospitals with wheezing babies each fall. apnews.com Interesting news. An effective RSV vaccine after so many years. One has to wonder 1) how this will change seasonal viral patterns and 2) if ever there will be vaccine fatigue. The latter maybe won’t happen but I do wonder if people are going to continually sign up for multiple booster shots for v...
