Questionable logging of resident cases
We started talking about this in another thread and I'm curious to hear what people have seen. I've attempted to include some relevant text from CPME 320 below. What's interesting to me is my program had a resident transfer in from another program. They told me that at their original program if multiple residents scrubbed a case the attending would dole out each procedure of the case so that everyone received a first assist for something. I hadn't read CPME 320 at the time and thought it... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

ABPM Credential/Privileging
Has anyone experienced challenges with hospital credentialing/privileging with ABPM certification? If so, does reaching out to the board and furthering the process with mediation help? Has it been successful? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Prediction time...
Decided not to put the rest in the thread title... Prediction: SDN will be sited in a malpractice case arguing for inferior/lack of uniform training of podiatrists... disclosure: I have no inside knowledge about this occuring...just a prediction. Thought of this reviewing a Twitter thread on medmal and how NP cases can offer not be reviewed by MDs because the are not peers... Edit: Crap just realized the can of worms I potentially opened....this has nothing to do with NPs. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Insurances to take / not take in the office
Hi guys What’s the best way to go about this? I started my practice about 6 months ago. I’m not sure busy yet and I’ve Been getting some calls from some people w random insurances I’m not in network with. Aetna better health , “zing” Medicare etc.. I’m thinking they’re some variation of Medicaid. I don’t currently take any of these plans but I have no clue what the reimbursements are like for some of the Obamacare care plans (will never take straight Medicaid ). Thoughts on this while... How to Handle Post Ops when Leaving Job
Let's say you're planning on leaving a soul-sucking PP associate job. Let's say you also have a handful of recent post-op patients. How does one go about this without opening yourself up to Patient Abandonment issues? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

schools losing accreditation?
I've heard rumors of at least one college potentially in trouble with apmle board scores. from the CPME outcomes: " Licensure examination pass rates:The college is expected to demonstrate a licensure examination pass rate for first-time test takers, averaged over the most recent three years, of at least 75 percent on APMLE Part I and 80 percent on both parts of APMLE Part II." source... Advice for new Residents (PGY-1)!!
This thread is about advice, your personal & professional experiences for the new graduates (class of 23) and soon-to-be residents. We now have a handful of active users, either recent-grad or seasoned attendings. Your advice on the dos and don't for a new resident will be constructive. Please be on the topic and do not derail this thread. A similarly named thread in 2012 derailed and ended with a lock and a few bans. Let's not repeat that now. I will post below... Could schools take away your acceptance if you do not do well in a core biology class?
got into 2 schools and i'm just finishing up my senior year of undergrad. I'm taking 6 courses, doing A and above in 5 of them and I might end up getting like a D or a C (hopefully not F) on Human Anatomy course. No where in my acceptance letters do they mention keeping up the same GPA or whatever, so I'm curious, would they take away my acceptance if I don't do well in my human anatomy course? What are some things you've refused to do?
A patient comes to you with a foot and ankle problem. It's within your scope of practice, but you elect not to do anything. You either refer out, or just tell the patient sorry I can't/don't want to do anything (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does Shaq have a fused 1st MTPJ
I was told by an attending one time that Shaquille O'Neal played for 2 years in the NBA with a fused 1st MTPJ. Is this true? I cannot find any evidence or PM News articles to corroborate this story. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Jobs and Graduation... feeling dejected
Sorry for being a bit negative here, but I need to vent, want any advice, and want to make any juniors and pre-pods aware. I am having absolutely terrible luck finding a decent job. By decent I mean pays about $200K and allows for full scope. I'm just about done a PMSR/RRA-36 at a trauma center - I've done everything from hammertoes and wound care to TARS, trimalls, and calc fxs. I've worked with vascular, hand, plastics, trauma, etc. I've made friends in all these specialties, with... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
