Surgical Videos for Visual Learners
For visual learners, do you have any specific individual, website or resource you would suggest that could provide surgical videos ? I realize books have been mentioned but it’s helpful to have videos specifically made for surgical techniques. Obviously YouTube is a great resource but I’m looking for additional suggestions. Please see link below as an example. All and any links would be greatly appreciated. Foot and Ankle Surgery Academy (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anyone know what is happening to Codingline?
I got an email that Codingline is closing as of Dec 31, 2023. This is terrible news, this was the best podiatry billing and coding resource anywhere. Has anyone heard what happened? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Boards timeline for a new residents
Hi, I think this might be helpful for all new podiatry graduates who are entering residency. Could anyone give more insight on the board(s) we are expected to take through out our three year residency ? 1) what are ABFAS in-house training ? 2) what is ACFAS qualifying exams? 3) when should ABPM cert be obtained ? 3) how did you study for them outside of case preparation ? 4) what other exams should we put on our schedule that might help us? 5) how does our out of state licensing work and... List of highly sought-after residencies
Making these lists to help future students when they have to pick their clerkships. Keep in mind that each program has its own caveats so not everyone likes all of them. But it's important to have solid clerkships, especially if you're a high rank, so you don't waste months with bad programs. Doctor-Patient Deal Breakers
What are your dealbreakers? We put up with a lot of nonsense from our patients...because podiatry...but how far is too far? This isn't about ego or having a superiority complex for me. Rather, it's about asserting our boundaries so we don't burn out on things we don't need to be doing so we can be at 100% for the things we DO need to be doing. Let's get through the obvious ones: drug seeking, violent threats, harassing doctors/staff/other patients, medical legal. 1. Early on in practice, I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help with remediation
Currently, I'm a first-year student nearing the end of the initial academic term. It hasn't been easy for me to kick off this year, and unfortunately, I ended up falling short in some of my classes during the first quarter and failed (not lower extremity). However, I've since revamped my study methods and managed to consistently achieve A's and B's in my coursework. Now, I find myself needing to rectify those failed classes by taking a remediation exam right before the commencement of the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is an autoclave necessary?
I have seen a large spectrum of disinfection methods in my short podiatry life. From an office that reused scalpels if no blood was drawn to an office that used an autoclave for every single use of nail nippers. Is cold sterilization enough for nail nippers or do I need to buy 40 for daily use? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hospital Employment Inquiry
Hey all, I may be interviewing soon for a hospital-based gig (full time). Quick synopsis: - 25 bed Critical access hospital. Only 2 other specialty docs - both gen surg. Otherwise mostly ARNP family med types with 2-3 PCP MDs. - Previously had a full-time surgical DPM. When I inquired about that doc’s case deversity, the CEO told me mostly just amputations. - They now have a NON-SURGICAL DPM covering their podiatry clinic part-time (that DPM’s primary office 1 hr away at another office... Favorite CME conference?
Which CME conferences have you guys been to that you really enjoyed and would do again? I likely won’t do ACFAS unless they roll back into a fun city, I am curious what else is out there. I was thinking IFAF Las Vegas? Has anyone been to that one? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ranking California residency programs?
From my experience during externships and talking with other students...I can say that the majority of Northern California programs are much better (in terms of clinic experience, diversity of surgeries, and Didactics) than the SoCal programs. Does anyone else agree? (don't get me wrong there are some good programs in SoCal like Scrips Mercy and Chino) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is Anyone Doing Total Contact Casts?
I feel like a lot of the time a total contact cast is the only thing that will work in the patient that does not want to face the fact that if they continue to walk their wound will note heal. I recently closed a wound that had been opened about a year (on a former nurse) in about 6 weeks with a TCC. After it was closed I recommended referral to the nearest residency program for a charcot reconstruction (sub cuboid ulcer) or live in a CROW walker. She fought with me stating she never had a...
