Clinical Characterization of the Persistent COVID-19 Symptoms: A Descriptive Observational Study in Primary Care
CONCLUSIONS: Results confirm that more than 10% of individuals recovering from acute SARS-CoV-2 infection showed long-term consequences and the observed persistent symptom duration was 178 days on average.PMID:37947104 | DOI:10.1177/21501319231208283 (Source: Primary Care)

Training to Improve Spatial Hearing and  Situation Awareness when Wearing Hearing Protection
CONCLUSIONS: These findings show that simple, relatively brief practice and training can substantially reduce HPD impairments on spatial hearing and situation awareness. The gains from training and practice can inform the development of relatively simple, brief methods to reduce HPD spatial hearing impairments, potentially leading to increased HPD compliance. Longitudinal data show that a subset of participants would not have received the full benefit of hearing protection because of improper application of the HPDs.PMID:37715688 | DOI:10.1093/milmed/usad352 (Source: Military Medicine)

Effect of prenatal exposure to organophosphates and pyrethroid pesticides on neonatal anthropometric measures and gestational age
This study examined whether prenatal organophosphate and pyrethroid pesticide exposure was associated with anthropometric measures at birth (weight, length, head circumference), ponderal index, gestational age, and prematurity in 537 mother-child pairs. These were randomly selected from the 800 pairs participating in the prospective birth cohort GENEIDA (Genetics, early life environmental exposures and infant development in Andalusia). Six non-specific organophosphate metabolites (dialkylphosphates, DAPs), one metabolite relatively specific to chlorpyrifos (3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol, TCPy) and a common metabolite to seve...

Prevalence and pattern of alcohol consumption in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Despite the diagnosis of HCC, more than a third of the patients consume alcohol. An AUDIT score equal to or greater than 3 discriminates any AC with a sensitivity of 75% and a specificity of 84% in this population.PMID:37045669 | DOI:10.1016/j.medcli.2023.02.015 (Source: Medicina Clinica)

Malnutrition prevalence in patients older than 7 years at vicente corral moscoso hospital cuenca-ecuador: nutritionday 2019
Rationale: Hospital malnutrition represents a global health problem. It is associated with increased complications, morbidity and mortality, hospital stay days, and costs. nutritionDay (nDay) is a project to fight against hospital malnutrition. It is an audit carried out simultaneously in all participating countries on a single day, using standard questionnaires that generate a national report. Aim: To identify the nutritional status of hospitalized patients older than 7 years and the characteristics of nutrient intake through the nDay data from an Ecuadorian hospital. First report of natural Wolbachia infections in mosquitoes from Cuba
Acta Trop. 2023 Mar 10:106891. doi: 10.1016/j.actatropica.2023.106891. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMosquitoes are extensively responsible for the transmission of pathogens. Novel strategies using Wolbachia could transform that scenario, since these bacteria manipulate mosquito reproduction, and can confer a pathogen transmission-blocking phenotype in culicids. Here, we screened the Wolbachia surface protein region by PCR in eight Cuban mosquito species. We confirmed the natural infections by sequencing and assessed the phylogenetic relationships among the Wolbachia strains detected. We identified four Wolbachia hosts: Ae...
