COVID-19 Vaccine Related Cervical Radiculitis and Parsonage-Turner Syndrome: Case Report and Review of the Literature
We present the case of a 40-year-old gentleman who presented with acute onset burning pain and fasciculations in his right upper extremity following vaccination with the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. His symptoms progressed to weakness in isolated muscle groups with electromyographic evidence of decreased nerve conduction. MRI of the cervical spine demonstrated multilevel central and foraminal stenosis, suggesting a diagnosis of cervical radiculopathy. The patient underwent a C4-5/C5-6 and C6-7 laminoforaminotomy and tolerated the procedure well. Post-operatively, the patient has experienced gradual ...

Contralateral versus ipsilateral vaccine boosting for COVID-19: considering the broader scientific landscape
In the relentless battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, the deployment of mRNA vaccines has stood out as a beacon of hope. The successes of Pfizer-BioNTech NT162b2 and Moderna mRNA-1273 vaccines have been remarkable, marking a revolutionary advancement in the field of vaccinology. Despite their rapid development and impressive efficacy, challenges have emerged, particularly concerning the waning immune response over time and the evolving landscape of SARS-CoV-2 variants. The study published in this issue of JCI by Fazli et al. introduces an approach to potentially enhancing the immune responses generated by COVID-19 mRNA v...

Comparable outcomes with low-dose and standard-dose horse anti-thymocyte globulin in the treatment of severe aplastic anemia
CONCLUSION: Our study revealed that the response rates of patients with AA and LD were similar to those of patients with SD to hATG combined with cyclosporine in a real-world setting.PMID:38485832 | DOI:10.1007/s44313-024-00003-z (Source: Blood Research)

Humoral and cellular response of two different vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 in a group of healthcare workers: An observational study
J Immunol Methods. 2024 Mar 13:113665. doi: 10.1016/j.jim.2024.113665. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOn March 13, 2021, Tunisia started a widespread immunization program against SARS-CoV-2 utilizing different vaccinations that had been given emergency approval. Herein, we followed prospectively a cohort of participant who received COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer BioNTech and Sputnik-Gameleya V). The goal of this follow-up was to define the humoral and cellular immunological profile after immunization by assessing neutralizing antibodies and IFN- γ release. 26 vaccinated health care workers by Pfizer BioNTech (n = 12) and Sputnik...
