Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) during aplasia: A bridge towards myopericarditis recovery after autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplant for systemic sclerosis and recent Coronarovirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination
This report illustrates, for the first time to our knowledge, that ECMO can be indicated despite aplasia during aHSCT and successfully used as a bridge towards heart function recovery in highly selected and fragile AD patients. We review the factors that may contribute to endothelial and myocardial stunning and acute reversible cardiac failure in SSc and aggravate intrinsic endothelial injury during the aHSCT procedure. These classically include: cyclophosphamide drug toxicity, viral infections and autoimmune activation with disease flair per se. In the COVID-19 pandemic times, acute myocarditis due to recent viral infecti...

Immunogenicity and safety of Sinovac-CoronaVac booster vaccinations in 12-17- year-olds with clinically significant reactions from Pfizer-BNT162b2 vaccination
Vaccine. 2024 Apr 6:S0264-410X(24)00425-0. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.04.011. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHeterologous Sinovac-CoronaVac booster(s) in 12-17-year-olds who had a moderate/severe reaction to Pfizer-BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine was found to safe with no serious adverse events reported. In those primed with 1 dose of Pfizer-BNT162b2 vaccine, subsequent boosters with 2 doses of Sinovac-CoronaVac vaccines achieved neutralizing antibody levels which were comparable to those who had received 2 doses of Pfizer-BNT162b2 vaccines followed by 1 dose of Sinovac-CoronaVac vaccination. Adolescents with 1 Pfizer-BNT162b2 follo...

Detection of SARS-CoV-2-specific mucosal antibodies in saliva following concomitant COVID-19 and influenza vaccination in the ComFluCOV trial
Vaccine. 2024 Apr 4:S0264-410X(24)00367-0. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.03.061. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe ComFluCOV trial randomized 679 participants to receive an age-appropriate influenza vaccine, or placebo, alongside their second COVID-19 vaccine. Concomitant administration was shown to be safe, and to preserve systemic immune responses to both vaccines. Here we report on a secondary outcome of the trial investigating SARS-CoV-2-specific mucosal antibody responses. Anti-spike IgG and IgA levels in saliva were measured with in-house ELISAs. Concomitant administration of an influenza vaccine did not affect salivar...

A comparison of four self-controlled study designs in an analysis of COVID-19 vaccines and myocarditis using five European databases
CONCLUSIONS: In the context of the known association between COVID-19 vaccines and myocarditis, we have demonstrated that two forms of SCRI and two forms of SCCS led to largely comparable results, possibly because of limited violation of the assumption of event-dependent exposures.PMID:38580517 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.03.043 (Source: Vaccine)

Long-term course of neutralising antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in vaccinated and unvaccinated staff and residents in a Swiss nursing home: a cohort study 2021-2022
CONCLUSIONS: Our study of the long-term serological course of SARS-CoV-2 in a nursing home showed that the first SARS-CoV-2 booster vaccine was essential for maintaining antiviral antibody levels. Hybrid immunity sustained SARS-CoV-2 immunity at the highest level. In critical settings such as nursing homes, monitoring the SARS-CoV-2 immune status may guide booster vaccinations.PMID:38579325 | DOI:10.57187/s.3502 (Source: Swiss Medical Weekly)
