The effect of vitamin B < sub > 12 < /sub > on DNA adduction by styrene oxide, a genotoxic xenobiotic
Chem Biol Interact. 2023 Jun 9:110591. doi: 10.1016/j.cbi.2023.110591. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVitamin B12 (cyano- or hydroxo-cobalamin) acts, via its coenzymes, methyl- and adenosyl-cobalamin, as a partner for enzymatic reactions in humans catalysed by methionine synthase and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase. As well as its association with pernicious anaemia, human B12 deficiency may also be a risk factor for neurological illnesses, heart disease and cancer. In the present work the effect of vitamin B12 (hydroxocobalamin) on the formation of DNA adducts by the epoxide phenyloxirane (styrene oxide), a genotoxic metabolite o...

A case report on autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type 2 with pernicious anemia
We present a case of a 32-year-old man with Addison's disease, autoimmune thyroiditis, and pernicious anemia. Multi-line and timely management are crucial for each association. (Source: Clinical Case Reports)

Th17 cytokines and factors modulating their activity in patients with pernicious anemia
Immunol Res. 2023 Jun 3. doi: 10.1007/s12026-023-09399-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe effects of specific cytokines produced by T cell subsets (such as Th1, Th2, and newly discovered Th17, Treg, Tfh, or Th22) are diverse, depending on interactions with other cytokines, distinct signaling pathways, phase of the disease, or etiological factor. The immunity equilibrium of the immune cells, such as the Th1/Th2, the Th17/Treg, and the Th17/Th1 balance is necessary for the maintenance of the immune homeostasis. If the balance of the T cells subsets is damaged, the autoimmune response becomes enhanced which leads to autoimm...

Autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants in a woman with Hashimoto thyroiditis and familial autoimmunity —a case report and literature review
ConclusionIn patients with HT and familial autoimmunity, SBI should be carefully considered due to the possibility of ASIA development. Hashimoto thyroiditis, familial autoimmunity, and ASIA seem to be interconnected in the complex mosaic of autoimmunity in predisposed individuals. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

A Case of Autoimmune Poly Glandular Glandular Syndrome Type 2 (Schmidt's Syndrome)
CONCLUSION: Autoimmune poly glandular syndrome can be treated with respective substitution therapy. Thyroxine therapy when initiated first may precipitate Addisonian crisis in patients with Schmidt's syndrome through increasing cortisol clearance and metabolic rate as evident in our case. Early detection of the disease and appropriate management may reduce morbidity and mortality significantly in the patients with autoimmune poly glandular syndrome.PMID:37116019 (Source: Journal of the Association of Physicians of India)

A Study on Vitamin B12 Levels in Hypothyroid Patients Presenting to a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital
CONCLUSION: Thyroid hormones affect erythropoiesis, thus causing anemia in a deficient condition. In iodine sufficient areas, most common cause of hypothyroidism is autoimmune, predisposing individuals to other autoimmune diseases, one being pernicious anemia. In the studied anemic hypothyroid population, Vitamin B12 deficiency was found correlated with raised levels of serum anti-TPO and anti-Thyroglobulin antibodies. Supplementation of B12 may alleviate hypothyroid symptoms, thus making itself a novel addition in the routine hypothyroid prescription. References Aon M, Taha S, Mahfouz K, et al.
