Prevalence of frailty according to the Hospital Frailty Risk Score and related factors in older patients with acute coronary syndromes in Vietnam
CONCLUSIONS: The HFRS was an effective tool for stratifying frailty and predicting adverse health outcomes in older patients with ACS. Further research is needed to compare the HFRS with other frailty assessment tools in this population.PMID:38576179 | DOI:10.1111/ajag.13307 (Source: Australasian Journal on Ageing)

Patient radiation exposure dose reduction using stent-enhanced image processing in percutaneous coronary intervention
We examined the effects of dose reduction based on the image quality of stent enhancement processing using a purpose-built dynamic phantom. We evaluated the image contrast (IC) of the stent in stent-enhanced images (SVref), digital angiography (DA), and stent-enhanced images with a 20%, 40%, and 60% lower imaging doses (SV20, SV40, and SV60). We visually evaluated graininess and stent shape using the mean opinion score (MOS) and retrospectively evaluated the acquisition duration of stent enhancement in PCI cases; finally, we estimated the decrease in patient radiation exposure due to stent enhancement. The image contrast o...

Incidence and predictors of heart failure with reduced and preserved ejection fraction after ST ‐elevation myocardial infarction in the contemporary era of early percutaneous coronary intervention
ConclusionIn the current era of early STEMI reperfusion, still one in 10 patients develops heart failure, with approximately half of the patients with a reduced and half with a mildly reduced or normal LVEF. Predictors for the development of HFrEF were different from HFpEF. (Source: European Journal of Heart Failure)

Predictive value of free triiodothyronine to free thyroxine ratio on contrast-associated acute kidney injury and poor prognosis in euthyroid patients after percutaneous coronary intervention
ConclusionIn euthyroid patients undergoing elective PCI, low levels of FT3/FT4 were independently associated with an increased risk of CA-AKI and long-term mortality. Routine evaluation of FT3/FT4 may aid in risk stratification and guide treatment decisions within this particular patient group. (Source: International Urology and Nephrology)

The Role of Retrograde Crossing in Short Coronary Chronic Total Occlusions
Since its first description in 19901 the retrograde approach has transformed chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) 2-4 and has been instrumental in achieving high success rates, especially in complex occlusions.5-7 However, the retrograde approach requires dedicated expertise and has been consistently associated with higher risk of complications compared with antegrade only CTO crossing.5 As a result, several algorithms have been proposed about when and how to use the retrograde approach, either as the initial crossing strategy (primary retrograde crossing) or after failure of antegrade cro...

Characteristics of High-Performing Hospitals in Cardiogenic Shock Following Acute Myocardial Infarction
Cardiogenic shock (CS) remains a severe complication of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), carrying an in-hospital mortality of 30 to 50%.1-3 Despite more frequent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and an array of mechanical circulatory support (MCS), the substantial mortality of AMI-CS nevertheless persists.1,4-7 Adherence to process measures in other cardiology domains, such as ejection fraction assessment after AMI or initiation of guideline-directed therapy in heart failure (HF), is associated with decreased mortality. Discrepancy in Diagnosing Coronary Artery Occluded Lesion: CT-Derived Fractional Flow Reserve (FFRCT) Versus Invasive Coronary Angiography
Turk Kardiyol Dern Ars. 2024 Apr;52(3):208-212. doi: 10.5543/tkda.2023.29035.ABSTRACTCoronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) and CT-derived fractional flow reserve (FFRCT) findings demonstrate high diagnostic accuracy, aligning consistently with invasive coronary angiography (ICA), the gold standard diagnostic technique for coronary artery disease. The differential diagnosis of total versus subtotal coronary occlusion is crucial in determining the appropriate treatment strategy. Subtotal coronary occlusions composed of vulnerable tissue can sometimes present as total coronary occlusions on ICA. This presentation ca...

Comparative Analysis of Angiographic Parameters and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Outcomes in Diverse Populations in T ürkiye
CONCLUSION: Comparable MACCE rates were observed in both ethnic groups undergoing PCI, despite a higher SYNTAX score in Syrian patients. Future research should investigate whether similar in-hospital MACCE rates are observed in other regions of Türkiye and whether long-term cardiovascular outcomes differ between Turkish and Syrian patients.PMID:38573097 | DOI:10.5543/tkda.2024.94024 (Source: Turk Kardiyoloji Dernegi arsivi)
