Direct immunofluorescence (DIF) versus immunohistochemical (IHC) staining of complements and immunoglobulins (Ig) in pemphigus group
CONCLUSION: We conclude that IHC is a useful tool in the diagnosis of PV with the highest sensitivity of IgG and C3d. The combination of IgG and C3d could replace the DIF in almost all of our cases, so IHC on FFPE sections be used as an alternative method to DIF.PMID:38427745 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_113_23 (Source: Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology)

Truth-telling in dermatology: historical perspective and modern challenges to breaking bad news
Breaking bad news is rarely discussed in dermatology. However, dermatologists often provide upsetting diagnoses of conditions ranging from skin cancer to pemphigus vulgaris. Centuries ago, doctors did not disclose upsetting diagnoses, believing patients might die of grief. Now, patients check online health portals that reveal their diagnoses instantly. This has altered how dermatologists break bad news. We provide a historical and ethics-based perspective on the evolution of disclosure and its effects in dermatology (Fig 1). Putative pemphigus-like reaction to oral fluralaner in a dog
Vet Dermatol. 2024 Feb 14. doi: 10.1111/vde.13243. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 9-month-old mixed-breed dog developed generalised pustular dermatitis, accompanied by lethargy and hyperthermia, 7 days after oral fluralaner administration. Dermatopathological and microbiological evaluations were consistent with a pustular acantholytic dermatitis. A 4-month course of immunosuppressive therapy resulted in complete remission of lesions, which did not recur after therapy was withdrawn.PMID:38356040 | DOI:10.1111/vde.13243 (Source: Veterinary Dermatology)

From neglect to spotlight: the underappreciated role of B cells in cutaneous inflammatory diseases
The skin, covering our entire body as its largest organ, manifests enormous complexities and a profound interplay of systemic and local responses. In this heterogeneous domain, B cells were considered strangers. Yet, recent studies have highlighted their existence in the skin and their distinct role in modulating cutaneous immunity across various immune contexts. Accumulating evidence is progressively shedding light on the significance of B cells in maintaining skin health and in skin disorders. Herein, we integrate current insights on the systemic and local contributions of B cells in three prevalent inflammatory skin con...

A Global View of Pemphigus: Geographical Variations
AbstractPemphigus, an autoimmune intraepidermal bullous disease group with roughly eight distinct forms, includes pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and pemphigus foliaceus (PF) as its predominant global forms. Despite the increased utilization of global health records and reporting systems, epidemiological data remain limited and poorly categorized. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a review to track, identify, and characterize cases of PV and PF published and categorized worldwide. A research question was formulated; studies were selected based on the inclusion criteria; and data from these publications were systematically col...
