Non-traditional student - out of UG financial aid, low GPA - what would you do next?
Hi everyone! I am posting this on behalf of my fiancé who is a pre-PT student. He has a bit of an interesting story, so bare with me while I share it and look for advice on how we can help him find the most successful path to DPT school. My fiancé is a non-traditional student who received his bachelor in Business Management in 2019. During the pandemic, he ended up working for the local hospital for patient registration and after hackers took over their system, they were looking for... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Okay to list this as Clinical employment and then explain the situation?
Hi - I have been a medical advocate with a rape crisis center since 2014 with a couple-year break during the pandemic. They offer contractual pay if you exceed 24 total hours of call per month. I way exceed that. I like the work and need the money. The problem is that this is a new program (paying volunteers for excess call shifts) that just started this year. I didn't get paid my first several years here. I feel like I shouldn't list this as Volunteer-Clinical if I got 1099 pay towards... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

possible dismissal from BS/MD
Okay so let me break it down. I am currently an M1 in a BS/MD program. I look a leave of absence because I wasn't doing so well and was so drained from coming right out of HS into this program and getting my BS in 3 years and then doing medical school online during a pandemic. I got AMAZING hands on experience during my loa and i came back to school feeling refreshed and confident and was doing great until my cardio module. My school has me on academic probation and is considering me for... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cocky mistake?
Hi all, So I put on a T20 secondary that asked me to list all virtual courses I’ve taken: “All courses Fall 2020 onward were taken virtually because of pandemic restrictions” I not realize that might be interpreted as me not knowing how to follow directions or being cocky for not actually listing all the courses. Is this a significant issue or am I overthinking? Thanks. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Mass Layoffs in Tech
Big tech companies like Amazon, Meta, Netflix, Twitter, Snapchat etc overhired during the pandemic. Many of these were 100-300k positions, and they're already being let go. This forum has always touted software engineer as a better job prospect than pharmacy. Is that still the case? The tech industry’s moment of reckoning: layoffs and hiring freezes It’s not the best time to be a tech worker. www.theverge.com (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Longevity vs variety in non-clinical volunteering
Hi - I am applying in 2023. For a couple years (2017-2019), I tutored math and reading at a juvenile detention facility for boys age 12-21. On account of being a maximum security prison where germs can quickly spread like wildfire, prison volunteer programs could not exist during the pandemic. They finally brought tutoring back this school year. I am thinking about coming back. I only really have time for one nonclinical volunteer position. I am also thinking about a domestic violence...
