Are we really receiving the best evidence and advice from high-impact journals?
Hello, First time posting though I've browsed this website many times as a student, resident, and pharmacist. I'm interested to hear your opinions on recently published clinical trial data that we have available to support the use of new medications. It appears that the COVID pandemic brought with it a whole new level of industry-supported trials and I'm concerned that future studies will fail to address re-purposing of old, useful medications due to the large amount of profit associated... Hello everyone! after years of anxiety on whether or not i’ll go to pharmacy school i can say now that my anxiety has shifted on whether or not i will survive so i could really use advice or just setting the record straight i start this coming fall’22 and i’m probably over thinking things but i genuinely am just worried that i’m going to fail out. Since I took all of my genchems and ochems online during the pandemic, i can’t say that this didn’t make me rely on the concept of “open note”... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Am I too behind to realistically apply for the upcoming AMCAS application cycle?
Hello, I was hoping to get some opinions or advice (maybe words of encouragement?) regarding my situation. I am currently a Junior pursuing Pre-Med, but I have yet to take the MCAT and have had trouble finding a physician to shadow (especially with the restrictions due to the pandemic the past two years). I plan to take the MCAT in June or July and have been reaching out to various contacts in hopes of finding a physician for in person shadowing (side note: I have spent time with “virtual... Quit Lab Research---What to do now
Hello Everyone! Current pre-med here, though I am feeling a little lost in my own path right now. I recently picked up some research (as of 8 months ago) because I knew how valuable it is in Med School Admissions, and because I had also picked up some interest in it during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, I soon realized that I hated the type of research I was working on (which was basically microbiological research). I had started to feel a lot of depression during my time there and I kind... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

If Amazon workers can do it, we should too!
Two years ago, there were several articles in the mainstream press about residents being over-worked as the pandemic tore through the US. Residents were exposed to dangerous working conditions. There was talk of residents considering joining or forming unions, like many workers in other sectors of the economy, to gain protections that only organization can bring. Was there any hazard pay? Were there substantial raises in base pay for trainees? Did residents and fellows negotiate with... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Significant delays in ASD diagnosis and treatment
'Heartbreaking' delays in autism diagnosis and treatment got even worse during pandemic Despite increased public awareness, research advances, and wider insurance coverage for autism therapies, children often wait months — in some cases more than a year — to get an autism diagnosis and begin intervention services. www.cnn.com Yep- I'm currently booking assessments in Feb. 2023. I struggle to see why there is such a lack of psychologists who do this. As a sustainable business, purely doing ASD evals only became viable less than a decad...

PhD worth it?
Hi everyone. I'm new to SDN so please be nice A little background: I'm a first year MSW student focusing on psychodynamic clinical social work. During the pandemic I realized that I wanted to go back to school to become a psychotherapist and began the process of looking into gradate school options. Truthfully, I really wanted to do my doctorate in clinical psychology but as this was a slightly later in life realization (I'm in my late 20s) and wasn't a psych undergrad with any... downward gpa trend during the pandemic ?
its been a rough two years for me. since the pandemic and going online every conceivably unlucky thing has happened, which has lead to a plethora of b's, and now two c's in a row in science classes. everything from covid deaths in the family, sexual assault, my dog dying, my immunocompromised family member getting covid and nearly needing a ventilator, to literally also being hospitalized for my own health reasons. i plan on really pushing my gpa back up for the remaining year i have, but... Negative consequences of applying for deferment of matriculation for major trans-related surgery (vaginoplasty)?
I recently was accepted into an MD school in the NYC area. I also have a DO acceptance which is going to expire soon. Being a disadvantaged transgender applicant was a big part of my personal statement and my application (but a tiny part of my interviews, other than being socioeconomically disadvantaged). I am a non-traditional applicant and survived intense childhood trauma, domestic violence and homelessness to make it here. However, due to the course of the pandemic delaying both my... Does radiology become more or less social after residency?
Residency has been a somewhat socially isolating experience, made worse during the pandemic by >50% of my attendings working remotely close to full time. Earlier this year I went almost 3 weeks without seeing my attending for the day in person, and days I know I will be alone the entire day I don't really look forward to going to work. Kinda wish I had a little more human interaction, besides a random person calling me on the phone once in a while to ask where a line is. Just wondering if it...
