“It could be like a Lehman Brothers scenario, where a couple of big health care companies take the economy down.”
Covid has wreaked havoc on our nursing system, creating escalating nursing discontent, and escalating nurse pay. The supply chain is precarious and prices for everything, from gloves, to masks, to medicines, is escalating. Costs to run hospitals are escalating and revenues lost from out-patient ortho procedures, etc. are decreasing. They are making it because of COVID subsidies, but how long will those last? At what cost? While making record profits in the early pandemic, insurance companies... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AMA: Today is the Last Day of My NHSC Scholarship Service Commitment
Background: I received the 4-year NHSC Scholarship and worked at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) for 4 years after graduation (I did not do a GPR or AEGD). I ended up having to change jobs in the middle of my service because my workplace was so toxic. Unfortunately, it was during the beginning of the pandemic (would not recommend). Overall, I was very pleased with my experience and would recommend everyone applying to dental school to at least look into this program. I plan on... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Med School or PT School?
For some background on me: I'm 28 years old. I'm currently working as a scribe at a local community hospital. I originally went into the job looking for additional "shadowing" hours for PT school, while also collecting prerequisites for that. I've been scribing for almost a year and a half now (yes, I've worked throughout this entire pandemic), and it made me seriously consider medical school. One of my earliest memories in life was watching ER and Trauma as a child, and even reading some of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Clinical/Shadowing help
Hey guys, I've really struggled finding physicians to shadow ever since the pandemic hit. In all honesty, I've called 50+ physicians ranging from free clinics, hospitals, to private clinics, but no one said they were allowing due to COVID. I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong, but my low number of hours (12) are definitely not from a lack of effort. For the people that have recently got shadowing, any tips or pointers. PS: Currently getting my hep B shots over the course of 6 months to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
