Evaluation of the biological efficacy and susceptibility in Aedes aegypti to the pyrethroid insecticides deltamethrin and cyfluthrin during the Zika virus outbreak in Kuna Yala, Panama
Conclusion. The results of this study represent a challenge that the National Aedes Control Program must face in order to care for and maintain the toxic effect of insecticides applied against Aedes populations. It is necessary for the National Aedes Control Program to establish a resistance management program to evaluate resistance and its distribution in order to guarantee the sustainability of anti-vector interventions against Aedes populations.PMID:37433163 | PMC:PMC10506694 | DOI:10.7705/biomedica.6746 (Source: Biomedica : Revista del Instituto Nacional de Salud)

In-Hospital Outcomes of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Versus Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Obesity
Aortic stenosis (AS) is a degenerative valvular disease that worsens over time. Its prevalence has been significantly increasing over the past 2 decades and is expected to continue to increase with the progressive aging of the population in developed countries.1 Aortic valve replacement is currently the mainstay of treatment of AS with improvement in both mortality and quality of life. Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) has been the standard of care for treatment of AS for many years. However, since the introduction of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in 2002, it has been shown to have similar, or even b...

Vaccination and mortality from COVID-19: a comparative study between hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and non-dialysis adult population in Panama
ConclusionNinety one percent of people in the country received BNT162b2 Pfizer BionTech vaccine. Lethality decreased from 30 to 5% once vaccination was available. There were no severe adverse effects and symptoms reported were less frequent than in general population, probably due to low reactogenicity in dialysis patients, or better tolerance to pain. Health-related quality of life in patients with RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer treated with fluorouracil and folinic acid with or without panitumumab as maintenance therapy: A prespecified secondary analysis of the PanaMa (AIO KRK 0212) trial
The PanaMa trial demonstrated significant benefit in progression-free survival with the addition of panitumumab (Pmab) to fluorouracil and folinic acid (FU/FA) as maintenance therapy following first-line induction therapy with FOLFOX/Pmab in patients with RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer. Here, we report health-related quality of life (HRQOL) analyses from the PanaMa trial. (Source: European Journal of Cancer)
