ea Earley In 2021, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) added “the impact of climate change on environmental and population health” into The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education. Presently, little guidance exists for nursing faculty new to climate education. Incorporating patient, nursing and environmental factors into antimicrobial stewardship: effects of simplifying treatment from cefuroxime to ceftriaxone
CONCLUSION: This simplification of our AG from a three-times-daily to a once-daily antibiotic resulted in considerable savings for our hospital (roughly 1.7 full-time equivalent nurses and over a tonne of waste yearly), with no significant increases in CDI or 3GCR-E. The impact of dosing schedules on non-antibiotic-spectrum factors, such as nursing time and resource usage, is worthy of consideration when designing AGs.PMID:38696830 | DOI:10.26635/6965.6449 (Source: New Zealand Medical Journal)

Theoretically Based Factors Associated With Stroke Family Caregiver Health
The objective of this study is to determine theoretically based factors associated with unhealthy days in stroke family caregivers.RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Secondary data analysis was conducted using baseline data from a large randomized controlled clinical trial testing the Telephone Assessment and Skill-Building Kit program with 254 family caregivers of persons who have had strokes. Guided by a conceptual model derived from Lazarus' transactional approach to stress, data were analyzed using multiple regression with unhealthy days as the dependent variable and theoretically based factors as independent variables.RESUL...

Perceived stress, optimism-pessimism, psychological adjustment, and death distress of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic
CONCLUSION: a low level of pessimism is effective in strengthening nurses' psychological adjustment skills againt perceived stress and death distress. Nurses should consider behavioral strategies to help reduce the level of pessimism during periods such as pandemics.BACKGROUND: (1) High levels of perceived stress increased higher score of psychological adjustment. (2) Pessimism mediates the association of stress with adjustment and death distress. (3) Optimism only mediates the effect of stress on psychological adjustment among nurses.PMID:38695430 | DOI:10.1590/1518-8345.7068.4173 (Source: Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem)
