Comparison of Neurosurgery Program "Personalities"
Would anyone care to describe the "personalities" of MGH, UCSF, Stanford, and Columbia for neurosurgery specifically? (I know they are all top programs so I'm more talk about what each program focuses on) It seems MGH and Stanford lean heavily towards allowing free time for research (at the cost of some operative exposure) while UCSF and Columbia are more a middle ground of research and operative exposure? Would this be correct? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Opinions on spine surgery
I had an interesting conversation with an academic guy the other day who essentially doesn’t believe in spine surgery whatsoever. He went on to say neurosurgery is kind of a sham specialty where they essentially only decompress things (and not fix/treat anything). Clearly an extreme individual, I’ve seen some success stories and horror stories from spine surgery. I wanted to get your opinions (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Neurosurgery IMG and research
Hi guys, I’m kind of new to this forum but I thought I’d give it a shot. I just finished my second year of medical school and thank God passed Step 1. I go to an IMG school that is well known (not Caribbean) and has a near 100% match rate in the US each year. I have always been super interested in neurosurgery, neuroscience was my thing from undergrad, but I am scared about not matching and matching but then hating my life after. I have been involved in research, and currently have 4... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need help choosing a location!
After 2 months of applying and cold-emailing [emoji24], I was offered a scribe position. It is at a spine institute that has a neurosurgeon and 2 orthopedic surgeons. I can choose which office to work at and was just wondering if there is a significant advantage to working at the main office compared to the branches? I have a branch that is 7 minutes closer to me then the main office. But I would gladly drive an extra 7 minutes if it meant I would miss out on networking by not working at the main... University of Cincinnati SMP 2022 –23
Hey! I'm a graduate from the University of Cincinnati's SMP program from several years ago. I ended up graduating from UC medical school and am now a Neurosurgery resident. I didn't see a thread for this year, so I figured I'd start one. Please let me know if you have any questions about the program. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

brachial plexus injuries
I've been seeing more and more patients with brachial plexus injuries, typically work comp, and the patient was lifting a patient who then fell, or someone had arm pulled suddenly. Only one of these patients was serious enough to require surgery. Most just limit their function, particularly with higher level activity, Other than EMG/neuropathic meds/PT is there anything else you all do for these patients? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Surgery in Podiatry
Hi, everyone and anyone. I was wondering what kind of surgery can a podiatrist do? Are there special dual programs or extended fellowships that podiatrists can achieve to perform more complex surgeries such as vascular surgeries, Neuromas, or anything else? Also, What subspecialty in Podiatry has the highest based salary? This is all more out of curiosity. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Stony Brook vs Georgetown
Hello. I would like some input on these two schools. Let’s say that the cost of attendance is equal and so is the cost of living (I only want to know about the merits of the schools and their programs). Which school would be better in terms of neurosurgical mentors, opportunities, and research? I am also interested in which (if either) you believe has the upper hand when it comes to giving students a better chance of securing a neurosurgical residency in an excellent program. I have a... Mom of 9 entering neurosurgery residency
Just saw this story in the news - to make it through med school as a mom of 9 is an amazing achievement, but to match into neurosurgery residency, which is challenging enough even for med students who are not parents, is incredible: Mom of 9 graduates from medical school, plans to become a neurosurgeon.
