Human movement patterns of farmers and forest workers from the Thailand-Myanmar border
Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that further work along these lines would be feasible in this region. Furthermore, the results from this study are useful for individual-based models of disease transmission and land use.PMID:37990719 | PMC:PMC10660292 | DOI:10.12688/wellcomeopenres.16784.2 (Source: Rural Remote Health)

Hepatitis C Screening and Antibody Prevalence Among Newly Arrived Refugees to the United States, 2010 –2017
AbstractSix refugee screening sites collaborated to estimate the prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibodies among newly arrived refugees in the United States from 2010 to 2017, identify demographic characteristics associated with HCV antibody positivity, and estimate missed HCV antibody-positive adults among unscreened refugees. We utilized a cross-sectional study to examine HCV prevalence among refugees (N  = 144,752). A predictive logistic regression model was constructed to determine the effectiveness of current screening practices at identifying cases. The prevalence of HCV antibodies among the 64,703 refugee...

Microplastics Distribution in Sediments Collected from Myanmar
In this study, 68 sediment samples of drainage channels, lakes, rivers and beaches from Myanmar were collected between 2014 and 2018, and analyzed to investigate the status of MPs concentration and prevalence. The high concentrations of MPs in sediments were found in urban cities called Yangon (13,855 pieces/kg dry weight), Mandalay (11,946 pieces/kg), and Pathein (12,583 pieces/kg), which were two orders of magnitude greater than the MPs concentrations in sediments collected in rural towns called Wundwin. These results suggested that the difference in high population densities and high municipal solid waste generation rat...

Influence of sex on the reliability of cerebral blood velocity regulation during lower body negative pressure and supine cycling with considerations of the menstrual cycle
Objective. To evaluate sex differences in the reliability of absolute and relative cerebral blood velocity (CBv) during concurrent supine cycling with lower body negative pressure (LBNP). Approach. A total of 19 participants (11 females; aged 20 –33 years) completed five testing sessions, occurring on 7 d intervals. Visit 1 was a maximal-ramp-cycle test to ascertain peak CBv wattage. During visits 2–5, supine cycling protocol occurred at individualized peak CBv wattages with progressive decreases in LBNP from 0 to −20, −40, −60, − 70, and −80 Torr. Menstrual cycle day was self-reported via the Rhinessa Womenâ...

Adolescent sport-related concussion and the associated neurophysiological changes: A systematic review
Sport-related concussion (SRC) has been shown to induce cerebral neurophysiological deficits, quantifiable with electroencephalography (EEG). As the adolescent brain is undergoing rapid neurodevelopment, it is fundamental to understand both the short- and long-term ramifications SRC may have on neuronal functioning. The current systematic review sought to amalgamate the literature regarding both acute/subacute ( ≤28-days) and chronic (>28-days) effects of SRC in adolescents via EEG, and the diagnostic accuracy of this tool. A systematic review of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Myanmar
ConclusionThis review summarises NTDs reported in Myanmar over the past 100 years. The findings suggest that most NTDs are likely to be under reported, especially from the majority of the country which is far from academic centres. Research capacity building together with strengthening of laboratory systems would lead to better understanding of the true burden of NTDs in Myanmar.
