Influence of systemic antibiotic therapy on the development and progression of induced apical periodontitis in Wistar rats
AbstractThe aim of this study was to investigate the influence of systemic antibiotic therapy on the development and progression of induced apical periodontitis (AP) in Wistar rats. Fifty-six rats were submitted to pulp exposure of the lower left first molar for the induction of AP. On the same day, intraperitoneal antibiotic therapy was administered once a day, for 15  days, until euthanasia. The groups were formed according to the different treatments (n = 8): C—control; GEN—treated with gentamicin (10 mg/Kg); AC—treated with amoxicillin (100 mg/Kg); MZ—treated with metronidazole (40 mg/Kg); AMP—treated...

Prolonged Bacteroides pyogenes infection in a patient with multiple lung abscesses
We report a case of multiple lung abscesses associated with polymicrobial infection, includingB. pyogenes, which were slow to resolve despite multiple courses of antibiotics  .     We believe that metronidazole in combination with moxifloxacin was a key component in the clinical cure of this patient. AbstractBacteroides pyogenes is naturally found in the oral microbiome of cats and dogs and hence exposure, especially bites from these animals, is a major risk factor for human infections.B pyogenes is known to cause infections that persist despite antibiotic treatment and can have serious clinical outcomes. We present a n...

Topical treatments, typically first-line for acne, such as azelaic acid, clindamycin, erythromycin, metronidazole, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, dapsone, and retinoids, were reviewed. Systemic treatments, such as zinc supplements, cephalexin, cefadroxil, amoxicillin, azithromycin, erythromycin, and corticostero...
