Epidural Reimbursement question
So I got a question for everyone. I'm starting practice fresh outta fellowship, so little new to the area of billing and collections. Say I think someone is a candidate for bilateral L4 and L5 transforaminal ESI. Does that get paid if you bill that? Or is there some limit to how many epidurals you do before insurers stop paying it? What about Medicare/Medicaid specifically as that's what I'll likely be seeing most. We didn't do 4 regions in fellowship hardly ever, though not sure if it... Going rate for Home Health PT
I am looking to get into private pay home health PT as a source of supplemental income during evenings and weekends. My question is, is this something that you typically have to go through a HH agency for? Because as I understand, that is typically for patients going through their insurance (typically Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, etc.) If I'm going with cash patients, am I able to do that without going through an agency? For PT's here that currently go this route, what equipment do... Going rate for Home Health PT (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why do programs sponsor candidates who won't stay in America after residency?
Real question. I am a US citizen IMG who struggled to match. After a few years of trying, I have decided to move on with my life. I know non-US IMGs who matched matched into US residency programs and went back to their country to practice medicine. Is there a reason why I worked, paid state and federal taxes, my parents work and pay taxes...and someone who won't even stay in this country after residency, gets paid by Medicare to be a resident? So the fact that I would have worked my tail... Why do programs sponsor candidates who won't stay in America after residency? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Admission vs Observation
Could someone please explain the difference between observation & admission status? I guess there are some new rules where the admitting doctor has to explain to the patient why they are NOT being admitted if they are placed under observation. Ideally, I'd like to understand it under the context of different insurances, Private PPO, HMO, Medicare, Medicaid. And how it affects the hospital, ED physician, and patient. thanks in advance! Mayo to prioritize privately insured patients over Medicare/caid
One random article but you can find a thousand others if you type Mayo into Google news: http://kimt.com/2017/03/15/mayo-cli...-will-prioritize-patients-based-on-insurance/ What do SDN people think of this? Certainly makes sense from a business perspective, but does it fly in the face of Mayo's mission re: "the needs of the patient come first"? Is this just business as usual and Mayo happened to be the place that got caught? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Seattle Times: The OR Factory Hospital Churn...
Choose your employer wisely: https://projects.seattletimes.com/2017/quantity-of-care/hospital/ "A steady churn of high-risk patients undergoing invasive brain and spine procedures allowed Cherry Hill to generate half a billion dollars in net operating revenue in 2015 — a 39 percent increase from just three years prior. It also had the highest Medicare reimbursements per inpatient visit of any U.S. hospital with at least 150 beds." (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Private practice family medicine still possible?
Still possible for FM doc to start a private practice after residency? I totaled up bills average around 200-220k per year with three employees. Estimating the average physician sees approximately 18 patients per day if the schedule is fully booked for 240 work days out of the year approximately 4320 visits per year. Average reimbursement for medicare is less than 50$ per visit while medicaid is less than 75$ so 50/50 practice would earn 62.5$ per visit or 270,000 per year working 9 hour...
