Politics debate
Health care is in shambles. And pharmacy more than anything will be affected by it due to factors such as saturation. From job safety perspective, which party winning will benefit us the most? Socialist medicine ie. Medicare for all, or Trump removing Obama care altogether? Or either way, we are - - - -ed ??? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Medicare for All + No Reduction in Tuition = Less Incentive to become physicians?
A lot of people that I’ve talked to seem to think Medicare for All / Single Payer Healthcare system will go through in the next 10-20 years. If that happens, it seems there will be a pay cut for physicians in general. If that happens, and there’s no reduction in the amount of debt required to become doctors, wouldn’t that de incentivize people from going through this grueling process? Go into the same amount of debt while taking less home. Money isn’t everything in the path to medicine... Medicare for All + No Reduction in Tuition = Less Incentive to become physicians? What are your thoughts on the proposed 2020 fee schedule?
Copied below from the AAO announcement. A 15% cut to phaco in one year seems brutal. Member AlertThe Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services today released its proposed physician fee schedule for 2020. Here are the highlights, based on the Academy's early analysis. Because this is a proposed rule, the Academy will work with CMS over the next few months to ensure a final... What are your thoughts on the proposed 2020 fee schedule? Public option NYT article

I just cant see single payer or "medicare for all/public option" happening unless democrats take the senate AND the white house. pretty unlikely at... Benign Disease
Sorry if this has been discussed but in Germany they seem to treat a large number of patients with joint arthrosis/degenerative joints with what appears to be good results. Has anybody done this and is this covered by insurance or medicare? I have treated the occasional dupytren's but that seems to be a small fraction of what is done for degenerative joints. Medicare for all and physician salaries
I'm not even sure what determines reimbursement rates right now, but will a single payer healthcare system drive down physician wages? With all the current hype about medicare for all it seems like it will be implemented sometime in the near future, which has me wondering how our compensation may be affected... Ect
Does any one know of ECT being performed solely in an Ambulatory Surgery Center? CMS has not placed ECT (CPT code 90870) on the list of approved procedures in an ASC, and they aren't making it a priority even with APA and ISEN-ECT requests to add it. This means medicare/medicaid are unlikely to be performed in an ASC for near future. So have any of you heard of colleagues, or are active yourself, in performing privately insured ECT in an ASC? Further more, please educate me on how... ECT (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pharmacists, we learned this in school
Ethical billing. I understand physicians and their business needs money to fund the remodeling of their offices and their luxury homes/cars. But as a pharmacist, I have the background knowledge from pharmacy school about CPT code billing frauds to cheat the medicare system (and private insurances). With that said, I want to discuss upcoding. I was a victim of upcoding. Doctors are not allowed to charge for time visits that they didnt not spend in the room with the patient. I was in... Medicare for America and DPC
“...the Medicare for America Act, first appeared as a 2018 paper by the Center for American Progress. It was a plan to expand government-run health care. It’s been called “the Democratic establishment’s alternative” to Sen. Bernie Sanders’s single-payer scheme. In March, Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke endorsed Medicare for America in lieu of the Sanders plan. CNN declared that Mr. O’Rourke’s endorsement of Medicare for America demonstrates his “moderate path,” but the bill is... Medicare for America and DPC (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How to start a residency program?
I would appreciate some help from program directors of this forum. We are a multi-specialty large private practice (only adult patients) but not associated with a medical school and not affiliated with a hospital. Half of our patients are medicare patients. IS there any way we could start an ACGME residency program? I did look into the ACGME website institutional requirement, but it is quite difficult to figure out. Thank you very much. Bloody Friday
Today, my group received news from a major insurer that our reimbursement rates were going to be drastically cut, to a fraction of Medicare. Since Medicare will not pay more than what we accept from other places, we will soon have to cut their rates I am sure. Our profit margins, for those of you in business who would know, will take a greater cut, since our costs only rise and do not get cut in a similar fashion. Our group will have to reduce our workforce, and do more work to keep the... Bloody Friday (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anthem BCBS Cuts. Grim for several states.
From my watchdog group Vachette: Vachette has come across an issue some states are facing with Anthem BCBS. At this time it will not affect you because it is not in your state but we wanted you to be aware just in case other Blue plans decide to do the same thing. For pathology groups listed in the below 13 states they are going to be seeing a major cut to the reimbursement rates and only be getting between 40-60% of Medicare. We are working with our groups who are going to be... Anthem BCBS Cuts. Grim for several states. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What is your insurance reimbursement rate?
To those of you who are solo practice or business owners. are you willing to share what your reimbursement rate is? For private insurance I'm sitting at 80-100% of medicare with the biggest insurance payers paying the least. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
