GME funding for Perio residencies
Hey guys. Why is it that some perio residencies get GME funding and some do not? Is it because certain programs have components with affiliated hospitals vs. being dental school based? Does the GME money only come from Medicare or Medicaid or where, or on a state-by-state basis ? Or if a university based program works with a VA too ? I am trying to see if there is any way that dental school based periodontics residencies with tuition will be able to get any GME funding at all for their... Building a very large private practice
Hey all, I’m a psychiatry resident who is approaching the end of his psychiatric training and getting ready to enter private practice. I am consulting this forum to ask about the feasibility of building this type of practice. I understand the majority of people here have not undertaken such an act, but would appreciate some input whether it be anecdotal or based off research. If I did start a private practice, I would like to get on an insurance panel to get cheap Medicaid/Medicare... Building a very large private practice (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Medicare/CMS sets the reimbursement for COVID19 tests. Thus, a shortage is not surprising.
I vaguely recall from high school economics that price controls cause shortages and surpluses. The laws of economics cannot be overruled with a decree. Given the sudden demand for COVID19 tests and apparent difficulty obtaining a test by many people, it seems like there is a shortage instead of a surplus. I haven't heard of tons of effective tests that are sitting around unused in a warehouse that would be expected in a surplus. Thus, I can deduce that the CMS's reimbursement is a price... FM vs PM & R and the future
MS3 here, having some issues deciding what I should go into (decisions being made soon). I talked to a pulmonologist today who was going to "give me advice" and he basically crushed both FM and PMR with an iron fist. His quote was "throw FM out, that field is dead in 10 years". He claimed that FM will bring in 80-120K in 10-15 years which scares the crap out of me (much too low for all that training). Is the compensation for FM really gonna drop (would medicare for all crush the field)? I... FM vs PM&R and the future (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What are your thoughts on US healthcare?
Not to hijack another thread... What are your thoughts on the current US healthcare system or the patchwork of different types of systems (VA, Medicare/Medicaid, private insurance)? Do you think there is a better and doable alternative (e.g., some version of universal healthcare)? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Practicing dentists do you guys know what the implications of medicare for all will have on dentistry?
I will become a dental student this coming fall and I’m thinking ahead. What are the implications of Bernie’s medicare for all? Wasn’t there at some point a gold rush where Medicaid covered braces, and dentists were cashing in like crazy? I want to get an idea of what would happen to the profession. What would happen to the way insurance claims are conducted (currently a fking nightmare), procedure expenses, what procedures would be covered by the plan. Also corrects me if I’m wrong, I do...
