Routine extended (30 days) chemoprophylaxis for patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy may reduce Portomesenteric vein thrombosis rates
CONCLUSIONS: Routine extended (30 day) chemoprophylaxis for all SG may reduce PMVT rate but lead to a higher bleeding rate post-operatively. The vast majority of the increased bleeds are delayed and can be managed non-operatively.PMID:38195313 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.12.006 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)

Ischaemic Priapism: A Complication of Self-Administered Hyaluronic Acid Gel as an Injectable Filler for Penile Augmentation
CONCLUSIONS: While complications from medically assisted HA injections have been documented, this case report sheds light on the complications arising from self-administered penile injections. Priapism is a severe medical condition that requires immediate treatment to avoid potentially serious long-term consequences. Healthcare providers and patients must acknowledge its symptoms and its appropriate course of treatment, especially in the context of penile medical injections.PMID:38186077 | DOI:10.56434/j.arch.esp.urol.20237610.100 (Source: Archivos Espanoles de Urologia)

Multicenter study evaluating target attainment of anti ‐Factor Xa levels using various enoxaparin prophylactic dosing practices in adult trauma patients
ConclusionsAn EBV-based dosing strategy was associated with higher odds of achieving anti-Xa level within target range for enoxaparin VTE prophylaxis compared to BMI-based dosing and may be a preferred method for VTE prophylaxis in adult trauma patients. Effect of Various Ancillary Operating Room Techniques on Wound Healing Outcomes After Total Hip Arthroplasty
CONCLUSION: Wound healing post THA is a complex process, influenced by various surgical techniques and intraoperative decisions. This systematic review meticulously examined three critical factors: the role of DVT prophylaxis, the implications of intraoperative drain usage, and the impact of different surgical approaches. Our analysis revealed that rivaroxaban and enoxaparin exhibit similar wound infection rates in THA. The decision to use intraoperative drains in the current literature indicates no definite advantage or disadvantage regarding wound problems with the use of closed-suction drainage in THA. In exploring surg...
